 Hi all...
I am new to eating raw foods. I grew up eating pretty "healthy" with my mom trying a variety of different diets including rotation, low fat, low carb, weight watchers, etc. And of course we all ending up eating what she ate. I am now just about 32 yrs old, 195 lbs, and feeling not my best.

I saw an article about raw foods in a magazine a couple of weeks ago and based on the rave reviews from people that tried it in the article, interviews I had seen before, and doing research online, my husband and I decided to try it. For the past week we have actually managed to eat about 98% raw and mostly organic. All in whole form because I just haven't gotten around to trying any of the recipes.
He feels great. He has lost at least five lbs and hasn't had any problems. I don't feel so great. A couple of pounds has come off which is actually water weight from premenstrual bloating but feeling kind of crappy. I am exhausted, my intestines are rebelling, and I always feel slightly hungry/nauseous/yucky.

My question - is this typical? I realize that I need to give it some more time but all of the posts that I read are so glowing and say that the individuals felt sooo much better in just a couple of days...So I would just appreciate some feedback.

Thanks so much in advance.

You are not alone sweetheart...I bloated up and puffed for 2 weeks when I started full on raw...then I literally deflated and pounds fell off. Men do seem to have a different experience but they are wired that way. I'm very happy to hear you are trying raw...you are doing great...just remember to keep hydrated and eat your greens too. (Don't forget to rest. Your body is very bzzzzzy!)

First of all, CONGRATS for making it a week. Thats wonderful!! :D

Secondly, everyones detox is different. I, personally, didn't have a bad detox... but I was vegan for over 7 years prior, so while I did have toxins I needed to release, they weren't from sad foods. I think that made it easier. Everyone will have a different experience.

You're cleaning out your body. All those old stored toxins are being released, so you're you're going to be feeling them. Physically, mentally, emotionally - you will feel them surfacing, and eventually leaving your body. While it can make you feel cruddy, I think it's a beautiful thing!!

Don't give up!! You're already a week in. Your body, I'm sure, is already feeling the great benefits. In time you WILL notice it, and you wont ever want to go back to any other way of eating/lifestyle.

GOOD LUCK!!! And again, kudas to both you and your husband!!

DETOX!! It's kind of a bummer! But the upside is, you are ridding yourself of the built up bad stuff. I, too, am glad you are going raw. It will be the best thing you've EVER done. I'm on the most amazing trip of my life, and it only gets better. Keep it up, and we are always here for you if you are confused or have questions. Also, I'd recommend getting Alissa's book right away. And if you have a blender, try this yummy treat I had for breakfast:

2 cups fresh organic Romaine lettuce
1 peach
1 apple
1 banana
1/2 cup water
lots of ice
DELICIOUS!!!!:D
