I ussually have a green smoothie for breakfast and dinner and they ussually consist of fruits and spinach, I though tI should change my greens around, but I tried red chard cause I heard that isn't very strong in flavor but I don't like it. Do you think it is OK to have spinach every day? This sounds like a really funny question after what I used to eat. HAha

I don't think spinach is good everday. I would recommend changing greens periodically.

Yes, I agree. Change up your greens. I usually have a green blend of spinach, field green lettuces, collards, beet tops, carrot tops, kale (sometimes), and parsley (sometimes).

That is why I also incorporate Alissa's green food powder. It contains many greens that I wouldn't normally have on hand. That's something you can thing about. THEN you could still have your spinach as your base, and add the green powder.

I do love red swiss chard but if you find it too strong (and I am getting away from kale in my smoothies because I am now finding it too strong for me) I love using romaine, red and green leaf lettuce, baby spring mix (but not too much or it is a bit strong flavored), 1 stalk of celery, and I do use spinach a lot too. Any of the lettuce varieties that I've tried have added almost no additional flavor to the smoothies for me.

I've been switching off between spinach and leaf lettuce. However, I'm kind of a green smoothie novice. I make the same one every day, more or less:

3 or so bananas
water to cover
two large kale leaves
alfalfa sprouts
spinach and/or leaf lettuce
2 stalks of celery
a few sprigs of parsley

I just got Green For Life in the mail yesterday. I'm so excited! I also got Rawvolution by Matt Amsden. :)

Spinach is the favorite here too! But I know it is important to change it up. We have successfully used romaine and green and red leaf lettuce. Another one I really enjoy is cilantro, you can taste it but if you like cilantro it is yummy! I make a strawberry lime cilantro smoothie....mmmm! Purslane has a nice subtle flavor also.

I use parsley, kale, collard greens, beet greens, arugula, mixed spring greens,
dandelion greens, mint, etc. but the list above is what the rest of the family enjoys most!

Definitely change them up somewhat, but there are no hard and fast rules about that as far as I can tell. Other ones I like to use in moderation are kale, collard, baby spring mix and cole-slaw mix. Yep, that's right. Cole-slaw mix. Yum-yum. Parsley makes any green smoothie taste "fresher". I'm not so big on cilantro personally, but a lot of people like that. Bok Choy is an on again off again thing for me apparently, and I am currently turned off by it.

I use spinach every day, but I also throw in one handful of parsely per smoothie, which doesn't overpower the taste. If you can find it, lamb's lettuce is very mild...they sell it in Trader Joe's under the name "mache." but it's expensive; $3 for a 6 oz or so bag. It's a weed, and you can sometimes find it in backyards. I've started using celery, too, which tastes really good.

Random Violin Guy!!! You will LOVE Green for Life. I'm so glad you ordered that. That is the SECOND best book out there - Alissa's being the first of course. Also, Revvell has an awesome book Smoothies and Smoozies, which I ordered and have yet to try any of her creations. But if anybody is wanting recipes - THAT is an awesome book too.

WHA?
Alissa has green powder? I haven't been to the shop for awhile and I do need Artisana CocoButter. Thanks VFL...I need this for traveling. You saved me! I wasn't getting good greens while not at home. Off to shop!

Almost every morning I have Spinach or Kale (non-red) and I add Wheatgrass. I have been doing this for some time. The Wheatgrass makes the difference. Sometimes I will have carrot tops, a little parsely, celery, but never lettuce.

I can't live without my Green Smoothie and ever one I make has Wheatgrass.
