I've sprouted mung beans twice now and I'm left with questions... The ones I used to buy in the store, Salad Cosmo, where HUGE in comparison to mine. My sprouts are about an inch long and somewhat curly. I can understand the curliness... I use a mason jar, but could this also be inhibiting their growth? Also, seed part is still very intact and somewhat firm. They don't taste like the store variety either, they taste pretty strong and seedy. I followed the chart Alissa provides the first time, but decided to let them sprout longer, they just didn't seem "done". I continued to rinse and drain for 2 additional days, yet there was no more growth. I bought new seeds at my HFS, the first ones were from the regular grocery and I thought maybe they weren't the best quality, but they look just the same. Is this normal? Do the store brands do something to get them so big? Are mine okay to eat? Any ideas/suggestions would be great!
BTW I found the coolest thing… My daughters’ old body pouf, the fluffy ball you put liquid soap on, fell apart. It ends up being a long piece of pliable mesh. I cut it up into squares, top my mason jar with it and use the mason ring to secure it. It makes the best screen for draining! I just rinse out the squares w/ soap and water after sprouting and let them air dry, and of course I washed them our really well before hand!! Don’t want any Burt’s Bees on my Quinoa sprouts!
Thanks!
