Hello,

My sister is on week 8 of raw and at about week 6 she started feeling really week like she has no energy at all. She wakes up tired and started taking 2 teaspoons of spirula as of Monday this week. She said that helped day one but she is back to feeling week and has no energy at all. Her head also feels fuzzy like she has heat stroke. (now it's been hot here the last couple of days but she felt like that last week when it wasn't hot out).

Any ideas what is wrong here? She is takes no medication and drinks about 3 litres of water a day. For breakfast she usually had a shake, for lunch a nori wrap with some avocado, cucumber, tomatoes, spring onion, and this cheddar sauce I make.

For dinner it's usually a big salad with lots of vegetables or some sort, or some new raw recipe we whip up. For snacks she has nuts, flax crackers with cheese spread (a raw one I make), and some fruit. She doesn't have a big appetite either which I don't get. Well some days I'm not that hungry either.

She is really concerned and being on week 4 myself and having none of these symptoms I don't know what to tell her. I'm new to this myself. She tested her PH with those strips and it's normal. Any ideas what she needs or is lacking?

It could be detox, but is she eating enough? More greens. Before V4L pops in, green smoothies! :) Maybe she should play around with certain foods. Some do better high fat while others do best high greens, and still others do best high fruit. Everyone is different. She should experiment.

Yep more greens.

also, could she be allergic to one of the foods she's eating? thats my intuitive sense...

A quick way to check sensitivity to a food is to hold theh food in one hand and hold the opposite arm out. Have someone push down on your arm while you resist. If you're sensitive to the food your arm will be much weaker than if the food is fine for you.

Maybe your sister can check a few items out and see if there's something she's consuming frequently that she's sensitive to. I'm sensitive to white potatoes but not to sweet potatoes or red potatoes. Of course, now that I'm raw I don't eat white potatoes anyway.

dreamrawalwz,

Thanks for the input and I'll tell her to try more greens and see if that helps.

Sunshine9,

She did have a lot of allergies prior to going raw and the main ones were sugar which she isn't having and corn which we have on occasion.

Raw Megan,

Thanks for the sensitivity tip.

lydias,

Good to know about the green smoothies too. Thanks.

Veganforlife,

Thank you, I didn't initially think of detox. How long does detox last? 3 months, 6 months? Also we didn't do a fast before we started, we just went raw after eating junk for years so maybe it will take longer.

I agree with the green smoothie plan; also, she could try decreasing the amount of raw fat--I get terribly lethargic whenever I consume more that, say, an avocado a day.

rawbeliever,

That is good to know too. She has less than and avocado a day and does eat some nuts during the day (less than a handful). I did make Rawvolution brownies though a few days ago and she was eating that every day for like 4 days a couple pieces of it. It's pretty addictive.

Thanks.

Yup. Her body is cleaning out and that zaps energy. Give it time. It's different for everyone depending on how much we polluted ourselves before turning raw/vegan.

That's a hard call. EveryBODY is different. The more 100% raw she is the quicker she will detox. The more water she drinks the quicker she will detox. Green smoothies are wonderful for transitioning, detoxing, reducing cravings, etc.

Hey! Jest all you want, but I'm gonna keep saying it until folks realize just HOW GOOD THESE ARE! They are so healing for the body, along with a raw food diet. Look at Valerie Winters' blog. She has lived solely on Green Smoothies since March and lost over a hundred pounds!
Victoria Boutenko healed her family of some serious, serious illnesses with green smoothies.
They truly, truly compliment a raw diet.

i forget who said it, but dont drink too much water eaither. i think you are drinkin plent, if not too much. when i drink too much i get dizzy and delierious (dilution of electrolites). try to make it so that you can just see the faintest hint of yellow in your urine. also, drink the water between meals, and only enough during meals so that you wash it down. drinking large amounts of water with meals dilutes the digestive enzymes, which means that it takes that much longer to digest.

This is something I have been wanting to try for awhile.

Do you have someone try to push your arm down that is holding the food or the empty one?

Does anyone know why this works?
