Well I am trying to sprout some chick peas for hummus and I don't quite know what I am doing. I have soaked them now for about 13 hours and while they are a little larger they are still quite hard, are they supposed to be like that? Or should I soak them longer?

Oh, actually, can we have sprouted chick peas on raw?:o

Hey there.

You definitely can have sprouted RAW chick peas... they don't get soft like the canned ones...

I wonder if you could dehydrate sprouted chick peas after rolling them in some horseradish, and make raw "wasabi peas." I used to get those at Trader Joe's and I loved them. Ahh, the burn. :D

LOL - know exaaactly what burn that is... and loved 'em too. Have been wondering if I could actually find a veggie ... heck, peas?? ... and do that.

Sprouting will cause them to soften up a wee bit but they won't be like the canned ones in terms of softness. I haven't sprouted any in a while but I think I did them for a good 2-3 days before I ate them. I just kept testing and ate them when they tasted good to me. BTW, they didn't taste good when I tried them in hummus. Very chalky tasting.
