I would love to hear everyone's thoughts about this supplement...

My boyfriend went to Whole Foods and told them that his raw vegan girlfriend is struggling to try and maintain her weight so they suggested I start taking this everyday:

Udo's DHA Oil Blend; unrefined, vegetarian
Instead of being derived from fish, this comes from the algae that the fish eat, direct source.
The ingredients are as follows: organic flax seed oil, organic sunflower oil, organic sesame seed oil, organic evening primrose oil, unrefined dha algae oil, organic coconut oil, rice germ and bran oil, soy lecithin (non-gmo), rosemary extract, organic oat germ and bran oil.

Im going to try taking this everyday and see if I notice any changes, also I know that Odwalla smoothies are not raw but my boyfriend picked up a jug of Superfoods for me. When I pick up my food processor from my moms house i can start whipping up my own.

Im really hoping that incorporating a dietary supplement with essential oils and also drinking smoothies inbetween meals will help me put on those 5 lbs I lost and KEEP THEM ON without having to give up on being raw.

Would this DHA oil be considered raw? I believe it's all cold-pressed.

I think it depends on how the oil is obtained. I mean by heat extraction, etc. If it says cold-pressed, then maybe so. Dunno...

Udo Erasmus was instrumental in designing machines that were able to cold press oils. He is extremely qualified and his products are beloved in the natural products industry.

I use his walnut oil topically, and his flax oil internally when I am not using my own company's products.

Algae forms of DHA are generally available in powdered form, and they are adding them to everything from baby formula mix to milk or babyfood. I don't know enough about Udos DHA, but I will say that even if it is processed, it is likely of pure quality.

Hope that helps.

Cassy

PS. You can read more in Udo's books...They are somewhat dry, but very educational.

I would say it is def. not all raw..the soy lecithin...and don't know if it's cold pressed...

Have u not tried some of those by themselves...that are for sure raw...like u can get dha from Flax oil (cold pressed) and very easy to find...also u can buy cold pressed virgin Coconut oil...etc....

I would think that it would help since it is so high calorie and fat with all of those different oils...good luck girl:D

I am not sure about the oil but I would definately hang on to the boyfriend. He seems to be taking good care of you.
On a more serious note perhaps you are worrying too much about the weight loss. It will come back after a while. Mine did. I went down to 108lbs but am now back up to 116lbs without changing my diet.

This is a topic that is very interesting to me- thanks for posting it.

I just attended a lecture at a homeschooling convention entitled "Brain Integration Therapy". It centered about children with learning/processing difficulties, and at one point mentioned some remarkable results they have made with the addition of DHA to the diet of these children.

The speaker then proceeded to state that the only two sources of DHA were human breast milk and fish oils. She highly recommends fish oil supplements (no brand in particular) if you do not eat fish at least three times a week.

I have a daughter who has learning issues and I want to know if DHA will make a difference, but non-vegan sources are out of the question.

This oil looks very promising and I may give it a try. If anyone else knows of any vegan sources of DHA (it's okay if it is not raw) I would be very interested in knowing about them.
