Hey y'all!

I'm having problems with green smoothies that I'm hoping some of you smoothie experts can help me out with :) I started a green smoothie "fast" today after only having made like 3-4 green smoothies previously. Problem is, they're turning out too bitter. They start off ok but by the last 1/4 of the cup the bitterness is enough to make me really not want to drink any more.
Here's what I used:
baby salad greens OR spinach (not the baby kind, the uh..adult kind?)
raspberries
blueberries
strawberries
apricot
water

Are there any leafy greens I can use that don't turn out bitter? I guess lettuce but I don't think it has as much nutritional value as stuff like spinach (correct me if I'm wrong!) Adding sweeteners like agave, or high-sugar fruits like banana or dates, isn't possible since I'm trying to lose weight and am sensitive to sugary things. I did try stevia but it didn't eliminate the bitterness. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance! :)

How about some stronger flavored fruits like pineapple, lemons, or oranges?

I'm experimenting with more smoothies right now, and what I've learned so far is that I have to have it be like a slushie. I also kind of swirl it around while I'm drinking it so it stays well mixed. My staple right now is this:
2 or so cups spinach
1 tsp wheatgrass powder (building up to 1 tbs)
handfull blueberries
handfull blackberries
4 strawberries
1 banana
1 cup water

So my trick is that the banana and blackberries are frozen. I let them sit out on the counter for a while in a bowl until they are about 50% thawed. Sometimes I add a few cubes of ice as well, but my blender is not the best, so I end up with a few ice chunks. No biggie, just have to be ready for them when I take a big drink :) I don't find this to be bitter at all, and the addition of the wheatgrass calms the sweet down.

Also, Victoria Boutenko's book, "Green for Life" has a lot of GS recipes in it. Sweet, not sweet, etc.

I know you're trying to lose weight, but maybe a watered down nutmilk might help?

Veganforlife: Yeah, I should get Green for Life. I keep saying 'I'm too poor to buy books' but it's only like $10 on Amazon :)

Thanks for the ideas guys! Hmm, wheatgrass... I like the taste so maybe I'll try some of that tomorrow!
