A sharp knife! Hold the cob on end, meaning standing it up. Then taking your sharp knife, start in the middle and cut the kernals off. Then flip it over and do the other side!

I stand my cobs up in a big bowl, and slice the kernels off while holding the top end - everything gets collected in the bowl with no mess ~ Cathy

I had the same problem. My solution was to cut each cob into thirds and then strip these shorter pieces. They don't go bouncing all over as much when they fall such a short distance.

Thanks for raising this, LoveLife. I too have been put off by corn chaos - even with a knife. I've got a bunch in the fridge now that will benefit from the good ideas folks shared.
Best,

FYI:
Save the silk & Inner leaves
The silk can be dried & made into a tea ( tummy aches ) I think it adds a nice flavor to broth
when you dry pate's wrap them in the inner leaves almost tamele' like

i've been meaning to try this corn cutter they have at the hardware store (in the canning section)
there are canning suppliers that sell corn scrapers online...

they would prolly make the job much easier

get a big bowl and put a smaller bowl inside of it upside down. then, put the corn on the cob on the small bowl, which acts as a stand so you can see and as a support and then take a knife and smoothly glide down the corn cob, letting all of the kennerls fall in the big bowl! actually pretty easy! :)

An electric knife will shave off that corn in a jiffy!
