Lately, I've notice that I'm nervously eating all day, especially when I'm home. Yesterday, between meals, I must have had 1-2 lbs of cherries and a bunch of raw olives. I also had a bunch of strawberry cashew cream. I eat all day now.
I did not to this when I was cooked because I couldn't. My diet was very limited and I didn't eat a lot of fruit at the time (I thought it was bad for me:) ).
I was going through more emotionally, but it seemed like I traded on thing for another. I haven't gotten any better emotionally, its just that food has taken up some of the empty spaces of my life.
My digestion is taxed because of the gnarly food combos but I cant seem to stop eating. I am bloated and gassy. I need to do a juice fast to give myself a break, but DP hasn't ordered a juicer yet.
Does anyone have any tips to quit nervous eating?

I have definitely been there, on both cooked and raw food..one thing that really helped me was going on a water fast for a couple days...I could barely eat an apple when i broke the fast, and after that my food choices were more carefully chosen and I had no desire to overeat because of the wonderful light feeling.
If you're not really into going on a water fast, I can only suggest the power of your mind - when you eat, really feel the food on your tongue..chew at least 50-100 times, really get it pre-digested welll in your mouth. Smell, touch, and really look at your food before you eat it. And when you find yourself mindlessly eating, or about to, just stop! Leave the room with the food, get as far away from food as possible. I've found that I used to overeat due to boredom, but once I left the room and started rading a book or if I went out with my friends I'd be able to stop the eating patterns :)
I hope that I could help

I do need to chew more. That helps in feeling more satisfied. Thanks for the reminder. I eat when I'm nervous or stressed.

go for a long walk for meditation or to listen to your i-pod (if you have one). I find that once I eat a lot from boredom or anxiety I have so much energy that I just feel like going for a long walk. You can't get to any food when you are out walking... gives you time to blow off steam and for you to digest. Usually when I get back from the walk I will have come up with so many things to do that I'm not bored anymore... I feel more relaxed and rejuvenated... and with this weather I'm all hot and sweaty so I don't feel like eating anything. If you have an i-pod... download really long pod-cast talk shows (ie Rawkin Radio). Ones for meditation and personal growth are really beneficial!
Hope this healps!

Do you drink green smoothies? I find that if I have at least two green smoothies per day it really helps satisfy me on a deeper level.

Try EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique. Just tap when you feel like it.
But grazing is actually great if not done out of nervousness, just work on your combinations.

Could you elaborate on EFT?

I drink two large green smoothies a day (plus more greens and sprouts) but still feel the need to eat (probably more food than I should). I am active: running, AcroYoga, etc but I'm not sure how much the food is an actual need. I wouldn't feel so bad physically if I can just work on the food combos. Olives and cherries DO NOT mix, LOL!

the first thing I thought when i saw your post is Juice FAST!
and then I read your last paragraph, yes, juice fast, you will gain such a new and fres perspective of your eating habits and their driving forces.

I've had the same experience & it only happens when my day is free & I'm feeling not particularly purposeful. My "Bored" grazing is amazing. I'mmunching all the time. What workd for me is diverting my attention. Make a phone call. Go someplace. Do something to take my mind somplace else. What's interesting is that on the days that I'm working, I have to remind myself to stop & eat because I don't always remember to do so. Somehow eating got logged into my brain as an acceptable social activity.

If you plan to fast be careful with breaking it!! I broke the wrong way and I'm in the exact same emotional eating pattern I was before the fast :(
