since its july (my 2-ish year mark of high raw to 100%) i thought id give an update on where raw has led me physically. i still havent reached my final "after" pics yet, as i still am not satisfied with my health, BUT i am very grateful for all of the progress i have thus far made and excited for the results i know are already in the process of occurring.

the first one is how i looked pre-raw.

the second one is what happens to you when you manipulate raw into a starvation diet. i dont suggest that...

the third one was taken today (ive been keeping a photo journal weekly to make sure i dont get too boney) after 4 or so months now 90-100% (dont know exact date, just sort of happened).

i look pretty pale in the last one, mainly because..i am. i tried to mess around with the pics and give myself a cool tan, but i just ended up looking like i made candy for a living in a magical british factory. viva la paleness.

now..do i hear "omgosh youre too skinny youre going to die eat this cow!" a lot? yes. especially considering how overall different i look (word on the street is i now look like an elf. cool..). but honestly, i feel good. im starting to actually feel great again. and ill take being a bit skinny over diabetes/heart disease risk anyday. its been a long journey, and i feel im only halfway there..but its been worth it. you cant expect results overnight.

a few physical changes:

-since pre-raw ive lost 50 lbs.
-i have about 5% the amount of cellulite i began with, and i probably only have that 5% still because i prefer laying in bed reading poetry over repeating "why the hell are you doing this?" in my head for 30 minutes as i climb the stairmaster to nowhere.
-despite my work-out routine going from running 7 miles every day pre-raw/mid-raw/mid-eating disorder, to MAYBE an hour total every week currently (if like..you know..my grocery cart takes off without me and i have to run it down a few times, or i decide to dance around my kitchen while vitamix is mixing my smoothie..), im the most toned ive ever been in my life (not upper body so much, though..thats always been weak)
-my hair has begun to grow past the top of my boobs without breaking for the first time since i was maybe 6 or 7 years old
-my nails no longer peel off after just reaching the length where you can see white on the tips, and theyre no longer bendy if they do get semi-long
-BMs have gone from every few days or once a week to twice a day
-clear toenails (ew i hate the word toenails)

a few lifestyle changes raw has brought about (its pretty much hippy-fied me ;) ):

-no longer interested in laying out in the sun for the sake of getting...burned, really
-no longer interested in makeup (except occasional concealer on spots)
-no longer interested in dying my hair
-no longer interested in bras
-no longer blowdry & straighten my hair
-no longer pluck my eyebrows

and something that drives my family nuts: i have no aversion now to walking outside, whether it be in my driveway or through a parking lot, barefoot. in fact, i now hate socks and only wear them when i work out.

oh..and i eat at least 2x the amount of calories now. i eat a lot. im a pig. my boyfriend marvels at the amount im able to consume, and also at the amount of water im able to get down at any given time. "you like..bong water ash.."

pre-raw, 180 lbs, size 12/14

50%ish raw manipulated into a starvation diet, 145 lbs, partially dead, size 8/10

currently, 130 lbs, see-through, aLiVeeeee3, i dont know what size i am bc i also no longer feel the need to waste money on new clothes anymore. those jeans are a juniors size 7 from 7th grade, though. whatever that is nowadays.

:o aw...thanku rawk :o

im just amazed at how ive gotten my body back to a state of health where im able to actually EAT, and eat a LOT, without having to worry about calories or fat or anything like that. its incredible, in retrospect, what all those toxins in SAD really do to ya

An elf! Yes, you do have an elvish, magical look about you, now. The life in your face in your third picture - even though you are pale - wow! Always a beauty, you have that something extra going for you now. Healthy is always so attractive. grin
I love that you can chow down and be so radiant on raw!

And you made me bust out laughing...

Looking good! This may seem weird, but I really like your eyebrows in your after picture! You mentioned you don't pluck anymore and your eyebrows look so much more natural and fit with your facial features better, woohoo! As for everything else, you look so pretty! You look so comfortable and natural in your last picture too. Your hair is so pretty! :)

You do look skinny, but I have seen other girls with a similar build and I think it looks healthy. We're just slightly brainwashed by the "Average" weight these days. ;)

Can't wait to hear about all the other benefits you're going to have! :D

what exactly do you mean by a 50% manipulated into a starvation diet?

Are you saying 50% raw & then the rest of cooked was very minimal for your needs?

You're not saying low cal raw would be starvation right??

Dont mean to be difficult, I promise. Just trying to understand this because there are many of us that dont require a large consumption. Our bodies seem to be working more on less. I'm at the 5+ mark though. Perhaps this is something you can look forward to!

i was eating probably a total of 700 calories a day with a mentality of restriction; half of them were raw and half cooked junk food (and not vegan. im talking like..cookies and twix bars.. ), and then i was working out to a point where i was burning 2 or 2.5 times that amount. for my own body and its own personal metabolic needs (though everyone really is different in that regard), i was killing myself. literally. i wish i could get by on less food like some raw vegans can..itd save me so much money on groceries :D youre right though..maybe my bod will even out eventually

and thank you everyone for your kind words :o . im just hoping that this will help others out there see that sticking with raw long term can really start to get your health back on track, thats all. i know that before/progress pics always inspire me

LNdolls: lol..isnt that everyones thought when theyre on that demon machine?
pixie: i cant even believe i used to spend hours every week plucking and plucking them into oblivion because i "hated" how "thick" they were because they "made me stand out." so much easier to just let em grow now!
smiling: you will! really..it just takes time. at least it did for me. its been gradual..as have the health improvements..but IMO its just proof that theyre permanent
lafs: hehehe hes my brother!! younger brother, too..even though he looks older than me

When you were eating SAD, were you eating fewer calories and still heavier?
(And not working out..)

07-09-2007, 07:03 PM
Wow, amazing progress, you look like a completely different person--and a much happier one! You're such an inspiration! I don't think you're too skinny, and I definitely don't think you need to "eat a cow," haha! People just freak out about skinniness because most of the country is overweight and unhealthy. I think people have forgotten what true health really looks like. Anyway, congrats on your progress!

ok im editing this lol:

simple answer..yes yes yes yes yes :D

i was doing less than 1000 calories a day, burning off half to twice that a day working out, and was STILL 20-30 lbs heavier than i am now

U look great!...I guess u look a little skinny..but I think it's just becuz u don't have a lot of muscle...

I also was wondering how tall u are?

Cuz in your first pic..u don't look 180lbs..must be the height thing I guess...cuz if I weighed 180 I'd be HUGE:eek: ..but I also am only 5'3"..

I'm so happy for u that u have worked thru your eating problems...and are so happy and healthy Raw:D ...

I've had that same issue with eating a lot of crap junk food...and not really eating a ton of calories..but still gaining weight...which always confused me:confused: ...must be a nutrient thing I guess...I hope to eventually fix it with raw...still kind of back and forth but working on it...I hope to one day make a post like yours..after being Raw for a few yrs..:D ..

anyways..U look Rawesome!!

Congrats!

I think you look nice in your first photo and amazing in your "after". I don't think you look too thin - you look really healthy at 130. You can definately see a difference from when you were doing raw in an unhealthy way in that middle photo. You have the glow now and you look very naturally beautiful.

Yer my new inspiration now! I have a similar bodytype/current weight in your before photo.

wow you guys are crazy supportive..this is why i love this site! :D anyone whos been around for awhile sort of knows some of the health battles ive had so far along my journey..but im just glad to finally be able to say that ive made progress.

i havent been 100% from the get-go...i didnt have the willpower some of you incredible people have...i transitioned, so finding my true body was a slower process...but now that i have im very excited to begin rebuilding it with strength and health from nothing but real food.

i SERIOUSLY mean this: i would have never been able to work my way into the raw lifestyle without all of the support on this board. and im sure almost all of you feel the same way..this place is amazing.

lovelife: im 5'10!! lol...quite a bit taller than you at 5'3 i guess :p
veganforlife: and eating green smoothies! ;)
rawmney: i look forward to seeing them! i love before/progress pics..really really i do! even though youre beautiful in your avatar so how could you make progress on that!?
starfire: "Like the mystical earth spirits here in Hawaii that run thru our forests with flowers in their hair ~ dancing and laughing" thats my goal in life! what a dream that would be to live..
beckla: i never, ever thought anything would be able to heal my previously so-very-fractured mindset and self-perception...but raw did. and im so grateful for it every day..and i wish the best to you
lavendar: thankyou for the support!
konmai: hehehe..yea, id posted the middle pic before sort of as a cheating "before" pic, but never a pic of when i was at my heaviest right before i began experimenting with raw. i wanted to wait until i had finally stabilized, which took quite awhile for me.
rawr: i know, dont i look like im dying in that second pic? i showed my mom the two pics and she was just like "oh my gosh...i never even thought back then that you looked unhealthy, but now that i compare that picture to you now i can completely see a difference"...its amazing the effect everything has that goes into our bods. good luck to you on YOUR journey!

im sure i missed people..im sorry if i did! im flighty and have a hard time with organization. thats why a life flitting about an enchanted forest in hawaii would be perfect for me :D

also i'm wondering... what do you feel really shifted when you lost the last weight? perhaps pysically cleansing, mentally feeling free...? just curious :)

i noticed a HUGE shift when i went super high raw/100%..

im far more intuitive, far more poetic, my writing has taken off (poetry especially)(dont judge my writing by what i scribble on this board! :p ), ive gotten into collage and abstract art pieces (nothing as strong as my writing, but still a skill i had never previously explored), im better able to see situations in their true context, i have zero interest anymore in pop-culture or fashion or television or any of that, ive developed this unexpected love for animals (its like i can.."see"..their souls so vividly now. its really strange, but equally amazing), i "know" when its a full moon now without looking it up before (no, im serious..this is probably THE strangest difference in me..like ill wake up and feel "off" and be like "must be a full moon tonight"..and low and behold, after an almanac search, its a full moon. every single time), more vivid dreams with more intricate symbolism (something ive also gotten more into since going raw), a hugely heightened sensitivity to scent, my musical taste has completely shifted, my materialism is gone, im not afraid of people anymore (though i still dont like dealing with them.. :p ), a lot of FEAR in my life has diminished and is diminishing further everyday (funny, too..because in TCM fear is related to the kidneys and kidney imbalance is related to hormonal imbalance (among other things) and thats something ive struggled with the past year or so..but i can feel myself healing)

OH and my "brain clock" or whatever (this probably goes along slightly with the full moon thing) has become..incredibly accurate. i mean, i am able to get into bed at night, look at the clock, think in my head "i want to wake up at 10:30. 10:30 is in 9 hours," go to sleep, and i will wake up at 10:29. or in the morning, ill wake up, see the clock, and decide to go back to bed for 30 more minutes..i'll fall back asleep, dream and everything, and wake up 29 minutes later. its so sweet. when i was SAD i would always wake up 1 minute before my alarm clock every morning which was always set at the same time for school, but its like now ive taken that ability and strengthened it.

im sure there are more that i just cant think of right now. the one thing im waiting for is heightened vision (literal vision. figurative vision im experiencing its unfolding daily..and i think thats a large part of why my writings ascending to a new plane). all in due time, i guess.

ok soo..i usually dont talk about these awesome effects of raw because then people think im a crazy new-age hippy (and im so not new-agey if you met me....)..but you asked! :D

You look fabulous.
I HOPE I can get to where you are: eating tons and still being skinny!

(PS I'd love a detailed account of what you typically eat :p)

You look great.

ok so for some reason i missed you asking me for what i ate, even though i responded to this post. i told you i was flighty.

i would say 60% of my diet is green/fruit smoothies, 20% is salad, 20% is fresh fruit

a typical day now issss (and this has pretty much been the same the past..10 months or so..minus a few tweaks like i just added cayenne last week):

16 oz smoothie from
frozen raspberries
fresh squeezed OJ
half teaspoon of cayenne
tablespoon of cinnamon
tablespoon of coconut oil
handful of baby greens
sometimes vegan bio-k probiotic drink (not raw)

repeat this 4 or 5 times a day

thennn

a huge mixing bowl filled with broken up romaine lettuce (my fav), with one or two chopped up tomatoes, tablespoon or two of olive oil, and a tonnnnnn of nutritional yeast (not raw..but i use it for b vitamins. AND it helps that i like the taste :D )

i probably have two of those a day

then at night as a snack before bed (i eat too late at night. oh well.) ill have like..a small mixing bowl full of raspberries, strawberries, oranges, apple, blueberries...like a small fruit salad, basically, of whatever whole fruit i have on hand. and then i sprinkle cinnamon on it..bc supposedly that helps control blood sugar which may be a factor behind dizziness i experience (or it may be circulation, which is why i started adding cayenne to smoothies...i dunno which, though, as i started both the same day, and upped my fat slightly the same day, so who knows what will help it). i have no idea how many calories that is, nor do i care. sometimes i toss what i eat into fitday just to see which nutrients im getting/not getting (roughly, since its not really accurate) and ill catch total calories in passing and its been everywhere from 800 on days i wasnt hungry to 1800 on days i did nothing but eat. also, im not very active. which i dont advocate! because exercise is healthy! i just happen to be too much of a bum for it, most of the time.

i dont vary much outside of that diet..occasionally the mood will hit and ill want chocolate pudding or something..but mostly, im lazy and the above is simple.

hope that helps a bit? this is just what has worked for me, after experimenting with every version of raw in the world, i just sort of settled with "eat what makes me feel good" (who'da thunk? ;) )

Actually, she said that she eats some coconut oil in her smoothies and puts oil on her salad. So she does eat a little bit of fat.

thanku :o ..its so great to finally have a normal relationship with food again..you will get there too with raw if you havent already, i know it!

and yes..i do love my coconut oil and also have a bit of olive oil. i avoid nuts and seeds mostly because im unable to digest them well. when i first got into raw i was in Rome, and the only nuts i could find were still in their shell, and though id sometimes sit and crack open a few nuts, being american its was just too annoying for me..and too messy (i lived with someone who was allergic to nuts and didnt want little pieces flying everywhere) so in my main transition i was used to not eating nuts anyway. so i dunno..i cant really comment on the nuts vs no nuts deal :o but thankyou again for your kind words everyone!

I will have to dig out my old before and after pics the first time I was raw. I am just a little shorter than you but weighed the same. People used to tell me I was too skinny. But, I was just really healthy and I knew it. Plus it helped that I was working out everyday for about 1 hour, yoga.

Now I am kinda starting all over again. Only this time I don't have as much weight to lose.

Only this time I don't have as much weight to lose.

im planning on getting into yoga once i move out to boulder in a few weeks...im sooo excited for it!

Congratulations! Besides the wonderful physical transformation, I am ecstatic to hear about your mental transformation as well: overcoming ed, and not worrying as much about societal expectations regarding how people should look, especially women. The societal pressures on women are so ridiculous. The possibility of release from these pressures is one more amazing virtue of raw.

Wow, you look wonderful. Jeans from seventh grade, gee what a thought. I also, eat alot and am glad to here you say that because sometimes I feel like I see other people and how much they eat, and think maybe I am eating to much. Not color my hair or get my eyebrows done? HMM don't know how long it would take me to get there but it looks as if it is working for you. Susan

I just wanted to add my congratulations as well! Your pics are beautiful and it is wonderful to hear about the creativity and inner peace your last pic exudes. This was just wanted I need to read about this morning as I'm experiencing bumps in my journey. But I'm inspired to keep going.

Thank you so much for sharing, not just the pictures but how life has changed for you and even what you eat each day.

Onwards and upwards, ~Megan~

thanku :o ..its so when i first got into raw i was in Rome, and the only nuts i could find were still in their shell, and though id sometimes sit and crack open a few nuts, being american its was just too annoying for me..and too messy (i lived with someone who was allergic to nuts and didnt want little pieces flying everywhere) so in my main transition i was used to not eating nuts anyway. !

lol! hahaha... ok. let me stop. sorry. sorry. :p

EYB, you might not know this, but since I've been going through many of the same face and hormone related problems as you and Sungoddess and Alba have, I'm not new to your story... I followed the acne thread for a while, as it really did help in many ways....

Anyways, its really really inspirational to see that you are feeling a whole lot healthier.. I mean the picture says it all! Really beautiful... Arn't you thrilled that you persevered and hung in there, and now you are reaping the rewards... ?

EYB-

Thank you so much for being vulnerable and sharing from your heart how raw and living food has impacted you in the past two years. I have mostly been just a reader instead of a writer (don't like the term "lurker"- sounds kinda creepy) on this board but have kept up with your progress the entire time, especially as I have had similarities in my own journey.

You look absolutely beautiful! I showed my hubby and kids and they all concur that your DA' RAW BOMB!

Are you currently in Boulder, CO? If so, we should meet sometime. I live in Littleton-- a hop, skip, and jump away! It would be fun to have a raw buddy as many in my current circle of friends/acquaintances think I am a bit strange in the food dept.

Also, thanks for making me laugh!! I literally laughed out loud with the whole comparing exercise to chasing after your grocery cart!!

Anyway, keep up the amazing progress. I know you will cuz it is part of who you are now-- no longer a dapple.

You are GORGEOUS! I agree with everyone else...you are beautiful in all three pictures! You are a great inspiration!

Could you post an example of a typical food day for us? I'm curious to see what you are eating to get such great results!

You look HOT - but you probably know that by now:D
and what's funny is how amazingly like our diets are --> it's like you just wrote down what I eat in a day!!
I too love berries and salads and my days are mostly like this:

Oil Pull (coconut oil)

Green Smoothie (blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, cucumber, avocado, greens, maca and cacao) sprinkled w/ cinamon. :)

Salad (salad, avo, kale, herbs, cucke, tomatoes, fennel etc. + dressing of coldpressed oil and acv/lemon)

Oil Pull (coconut oil)

Green smoothie (repeat/something different in it)

Salad for dinner

Oil Pull (Sesame oil)
haha...verry simple and some might say borring - but this is how I feel best eating --> it's low glycemic and I feel light but satisfied all day!

Also - I wondered - how is your skin doing? Since I started Oil Pulling I can eat a lot more fruit without feeling my blood sugar spike (and cause acne)...maybe it's something for you?

eatyourbroccoli,

Wow, you look terrific in all your photos but you seem very content in the last one. You look like a granola child and I'm envious. Here in BC where I live it's a look I want to achieve. To me it represents healthy, relaxed, content, and a natural beauty.

When I grocery shop with my sister I always joke that we are finally granola children because we buy all veggies, fruit and that is my assumption of what granola folk eat. I mean no offense by this term as it's something I admire.

eatyourbroccoli,

Okay you can be my fellow granola sibling. Your photos just make me realize that it will all be worth it the longer I stay raw. It's already made a difference in my health.

I've never been but here Colorado is beautiful too.

You look great in all 3 pictures, but you look best in the third I think, you don't need any makeup! Way to go on the two year mark. That is truly inspirational. As for being hippi-fied...I'm not sure if it's so much the barefoot thing or drinking the bong water!:D
