I bought some red lentils today, doesn't one of Alissa's recipes call for sprouted lentils, maybe the unchicken?

unless they're some special red lentils normally available red lentils don't sprout, you need to get the green lentils IMO or even better the "french" lentils.

taken off the sprout people's web site:
Many colors in different sizes but always the same lovely shape, lentils are one of the greatest seeds on Earth! The seed itself remains viable (it germinates well) for years, they sprout fast and with minimal effort, they taste great as 2 day sprouts and as 7 day sprouts with tiny plants growing out one end, the sprouts can last in your refrigerator for 2 months and they can be eaten raw or cooked in a multitude of ways - their unique shape means they'll even stay on a sandwich!
Here's what the www.sproutpeople.com say about crimson (red) lentils:
Crimson
Another in our beautiful and delicious and easy to grow Lentil line, Crimson Lentils are smaller and plumper and of a darker orange than Red Chief. Exceptionally beautiful!

So yes, they should sprout. Try 'em.

I already soaked them and am waiting to see some sprouts, so maybe so, and they are such a pretty color.

I was talking about the common ones you buy at the store.
Good luck GG hope they sprout for you, keep some longer and see if they grow.

I sprouted split red lentils in the past week and made crackers from them. They grew little shoots for me and were very well behaved.
