View Full Version : Can someone tell me - what in these foods might cause bloating?

I have an extra layer of fat below my belly button & last night, my dh told me that I looked really bloated so I should stop eating whatever I was eating that was causing the bloat. But I couldn't think of anything that was causing it. I just thought maybe toxins were pooling themselves in that one specific area & sooner or later, those toxins would be released. I'll write down what I had yesterday & maybe someone might be able to tell me something. As far as I can see, NOTHING should have caused the bloating.

Here is what I ate:

2 bananas
100% organic raw flax bar (all sprouted)
strawberries
cantaloupe
raw energy nut mix (combination of raw nuts - walnuts, almonds, cashews, etc. w/ raisins)
some onion
1 avocado
1 slice Ezekiel bread (sprouted) w/ a thin layer of raw, organic honey spread over it

And that't it.

Is there anything in there that might have caused me to bloat?

Of course, the bloat is gone today after elmination.

I really don't think it's the foods so much as your body just detoxing. You answered your own question. It was gone after elimination. I mean how long have you been raw? Are you drinking enough water? How about green smoothies?
Also grapefruit helps speed up elimination.
I say just keep on doing what you are doing. Everything looks fine that you are eating with the exception of Ezekial bread. That is not raw, although I think it's a fine transition food.

I'm moving myself up to 100% raw & am transitioning. So that's why I'm keeping the Ezekiel bread in just for now - but I don't usually eat it every day, either.

My parents are in town this week so I am waiting till they leave before I move msyelf back up to 100%. I've been 85% raw now for about 4 weeks & made the decision last week to start transitioning.

I've tried green smoothies before & just don't really care for the taste of them. They just taste odd to me so I just prefer to eat my foods all whole.

Thanks for the grapefruit suggestion. Now I am going to have to go get some grapefruit!

Take a look at your food combining. Are you eating fruit with nuts? That will make you bloat. I only eat fruit alone or with leafy greens in a smoothie.

when you look at food combination, normally fruits+veggies, or fruits+grains do not go together. In my experience that does cause bloating...

Are fruits with leafy greens a good combo? In that case I will try the green smoothies anyway. In general I keep fruits and veggies 100% separated. :o

I eat all my meals separately.

Never mix fruit with nuts or veggies. (oh wait...except for my raw energy nut mix that has raisins-would that also be a culprit?)

Never mix fruits & veggies together.

Always eat fruit in the am.

Maybe a salad (didn't have one yesterday) in the afternoon.

And either a green salad or a fruit salad in the evening.

I try not to worry too much about food combining at this time. I just happen to eat all my stuff separately.

I'm thinking it is just detox.

It might also be food combining. Some foods are just harder to digest than others esp. combined w/ the wrong foods. I tried not to worry about food combining, when I first started raw as well. When I did that, in a way, it was disheartening for me since I was not feeling all that healthy(tired) and the bloating. So i had to incorporate food combining rules into my RAW way of eatting. My body seem to be sensitive if I don't. :o If I didn't, I may have not continued being RAW, but everyone's body is very different.

Hope you figure out what's right for you at this point! :D

What's in your fruit salad?

Another thought - increase your water take. I mistakenly took someone's advice when I first started going raw that drinking a good amount of water is strictly for SAD/CRAP eaters? WRONG! We raw foodists need to also drink a good deal of water daily. I've bumped my intake and it has helped me. Helped in the way of not feeling as hungry, elimination, my skin, etc.

Let's see - my water intake is upwards to 90-120 oz per day so that's not a problem.

In my fruit salad, it is usually:

bananas
berries -all & any kind
raisins

that's pretty much it.

I eat watermelon by itself. And I eat cantaloupe by itself.

Well, like I said, I'm thinking it's detox. You figure how many years you ate "the other way"??? Give it time. Sounds like you're doing everything okay. Are you moving (working out, exercising, walking)? That helps too.

And I'm thinking you're right, veganforlife.

Oh yes. I walk every day. And I weight train 3x a week.

I am pretty strict about food combining... I don't even mix sweet fruits with acid fruits, etc. The other morning I woke up and looked at least 3 months pregnant. This lasted all day and then later in the afternoon I had some, shall we say, massive relief. The tummy was completely eliminated.

In other words, I'm thinking that you might have had the problem because you did everything right and it was just time for a bit of a flush out.

Was there salt in any of the foods you ate? Salt really does that to me. I try and avoid it when possible, and try and get my sodium from stuff like celery for the most part.

Did this occur after the eziecel bread, that could be it. Also although raisins are allowed I find they can cause me to bloat if it is to many. Tr eliminating things one at a time. Also sometimes I think we just hold fluid. Susan
