View Full Version : Im'a sproutin' phobic :/
Okay....now I know this must sound strange, but...I am kind of unsure about eating sprouted grains etc...such as lentils. I guess I am having a hard time finding the nerve to actually eat raw grains and beans raw. I am being weird I know...:p
I sprouted a big bowl of lentils the other week and then read somewhere that eating raw lentils are actually bad for you! Sooo, leave it to me to freak out....I threw them away!
Does anyone have any suggestions on taking that first step towards eating raw grains and beans? Is there any grain/bean that I shouldnt eat??
Uhhh, can we say neurotic?? :D
Thanks guys!

I just sprouted my first grains and seeds today, I was afraid of failing and ending up with fermented smelly mush. Well, I'm here to tell you, it worked! And they are delicious! In started small with buckwheat groats and quinoa. I made a DELICIOUS tabouli using the quinoa instead of bulgar, and used the buckwheat groats in a raw sun-dried tomato bread that's in my dehydrator right now!
Quinoa is reeeally easy to sprout, and, I hear easy to digest. If you do a banana search on this board for quinoa you'll get a bunch of discussions about it, and recipes!
Have no fear!
Also, go to this website- http://www.sproutpeople.com/index.html
There are links there for every kind of seed, bean, and grass sprout you could imagine!
Good luck, sending you good sprout vibes-
Abby

Im on my way to go check it out!
Ohhh, and the tabouli sounds delicious! Makes me hungry thinkin' about it.

I eat a bunch of different kinds of sprouts--quinoa, lentils, beans, peas, etc. I've been eating them for months if not years and...I'm still alive :D
Some sources say sprouted beans and stuff are bad for you, some sources say they're good. I've never heard any actual scientific reasons they're "bad," I just think some people may have trouble digesting them or something, just like with cooked ones. I guess start out only eating a little bit and see how they make you feel. A warning though, sprouted beans and lentils don't taste anything like cooked ones. I think they're good, but in a different way.
