View Full Version : How strenous should exercise be if you eat raw?

I'm working on losing fat (not weight) and have been told that I need to do at least 2 HIIT sessions for 30 minutes & 3 days of weight training for 30 min & be in a calorie deficit (body weight x 12) to lose body fat.

But if you're raw, is this STILL necessary?

Or can I get away with gentler exercising - like walking for an hour - and still weight train - and still reap the benefits?

It's not necessary raw or not. MANY people have gotten healthier just by walking alone. Having said that, it's always helpful to do SOME intense movement EVERY single day... say 10 minutes or so.

You will reap the benefits when doing ANY kind of conscious movements. The more you do, the more you'll be reapin'.

This will be coming up in one of our rawkin' radio shows although we've already mentioned movement/exercise in a couple of them.

I think everyone is different. It depends on how quickly you want to lose it and how long you've been raw and how raw you are. If you're JUST starting out with 100% raw I'd lighten up and allow your body to heal and do it's thing naturally. I personally dont think stenuous exercise is the best thing for your body anyway. Not sure if this helped at all or not.

If you are in the midst of a healing crisis I would say to go light on exercise. Your body needs the strength to heal . If you have been raw and are feeling good do as much as you like and feel good with. Don't let someone else dictate what you should or shouldn't be doing. Learn what is right FOR YOU!! :D

As someone elses thread stated, forget about the fat for right now. Get your eating down right first and the rest will follow.

our bodies are made to move....that is just how it is.....

to loose fat....one must do weight training....it truly does change and sculpt the body.....

i am a firm believer in vigorous exercise....working the heart......sweating.....challenging yourself....

and then recovering with lots of raw fruit and rest....

health is more than diet and exercise....it is important to look at the whole big picture...not just fragments of it....

I love raw foods and am really looking forward to getting back on the wagon with an excersise component.

Not true. Many have eliminated excess fat without ever lifting a weight. I don't "weight train" per se anymore but I do throw a medicine ball around, a sand bag and swing kettle bells and Indian Clubs.

Many have eliminated excess fat just by walking, hula hooping, yoga, qigong, etc.

Having said that, weight bearing exercises are necessary for good bone strength as is chewing for jawbones.

I tried the whole move for 10 minutes, walk ( i dont drive I walk everywhere,) and until I started lifting weights, my body started to become a masterpiece. hehe.

2 each is own tho.

hehe. I'd say do the exercise you like first if you're not a regular exerciser. Weight training can be pretty boring for me. And when you really start to like exercising and have your own rhythm and gain the strength, you'll probably like weight training and want to incorporate it into your regimen rather than something you "have" to do. that sucks. :p Sorry guys.

Just walking is good. I do a lot of that. 10 miles/day I think. To the store, to the library, to work -- my basic traveling paces. Never got into biking. Don't know why. Tai-chi, too. There are a lot of types of exercises. Check out and learn about them. :D

I LOVE to exercise & I do enjoy weight training. So I"m just walking for an hour a day now (scheduled) and then I'll walk more later on in the day if I feel like another walk. And I LOVE the way weight training makes me feel. That's why I do it.

I tried doing the cardio intervals - just not me anymore. Plus I was walking around with very sore knees for a couple of days after that.

After 3-4 months of raw, gentle doesn’t work for me. I still run and hike up hills weights and so on. I believe I would be flabby if I did nothing (or just walk which it is nothing)

Yoga and brisk walking is relaxing, but not a workout (for me) except for AcroYoga.

I may need to change my answer in about a year of being raw.

If you're raw, you still can exercise hard and often harder.
And no matter how raw you eat, exercise is still necessary to be healthy.
You certainly don't have to go easy on yourself because you are raw or anything.
Most athletes go vegan for competitions and stuff because it increases performance, let alone raw...

I am only 4 days on 100% raw and strenuous exercise is not an issue for me so far! I workout 6 days a week and it usually includes high impact areobics and weight training. I did this some time ago when I was eating raw and found some days I had more energy and strength than ever before and some I had very little. It depended on so many factors. I believe your body will tell you how much exercise it can handle. After a 10 day cleanse, recently, I couldn't even finish a one hour aerobic class... I had to stop. I seriously couldn't lift my arm toward the end of the class. My body was telling me to stop in a big old way!

Aerobic exercise builds cardio-vascular strength/endurance AND burns fat. Weight training (aka strength training) is an anaerobic activity that burns glycogen, not fat. But, by building muscle you increase your basal metabolic rate which means you will burn more calories in a given day and during a given activity. Toned muscle also looks allot better, IMHO.

Personally, I enjoy weight training because I feel strong which boosts my self-esteem -- and I love seeing my muscles take shape and knowing that once the rest of the fat is gone I'll look doggoneGOOD!
