My Raw nori rolls just aren't floating my boat. The one with cauliflower just fell apart, like they do in general. I take a bite and can't cut through the nori paper and the whole thing loses it's shape. And I don't feel like I'm stuffing it with food that complements the sea weed taste. Any suggestions? I know how important sea vegetables are.

Out of curiosity, do you let your roll sit for a bit before you cut it? From what I gather, that helps soften the nori enough to cut it without tearing the whole thing apart. 10 min. maybe?

No, didn't know that. Probably need to get a real sharp knife too. Would you recommend a serrated knife to get through it? I'm dulling my knives on the coconuts!
This is my favorite Nori recipe. It comes from Ani Phyo and is listed in her website. She also does a demo of it on Youtube. I add a dash of nama shoyu to the pate recipe. It is delicious!! Hope this helps!!
Almond Ginger Pate
1 Tablespoon ginger
1 clove garlic
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1 cup almonds, dry
1 lemon’s juice
1/4 cup filtered water
Nori Rolls
2 sheets nori (raw)
1 batch Ginger Almond Pate
2 cups spinach
1/2 carrot, cut lengthwise
1 cup mung bean sprouts

I take a half of a CA avocado, julianned cucumbers, beets and carrots, and lettuce and wrap it up. As much as califlower looks cool, like you, I'm not a fan of the flavor in this dish. I've found that marinating the califlower in advance helps soften it a bit, especially if I marinate it and set it in the dehydrator for a few hours, and then put it into the wrap.
For me, nori and avocado are the best companions, and the Haas type is the one of choice. I love Florida avocados, but they are too sweet for me to combine with the mineral taste of the nori.
Hope that helps.

oh~ I forgot to add~ Use a REALLY sharp knife to cut them. Good knives are key for me and raw gourmet...this will help you slice the rolls such that they don't fall apart.
Most times, however, I just roll 'em up and eat them. Like a burrito! :)

I haven't been able to like nori rolls yet either. I do admit that when I was in my cooked food phase I was eating and enjoying it with cooked rice :o but as for the raw rolls, haven't quite acquired a taste for them yet but I can see the potential...which is why I keep saying "yet".
However, I DO love nori chips as does my family! I don't have a RECIPE/recipe...but I usually just put some nama shoyu, olive oil, a little agave and a little water (to cut down on the saltiness of the shoyu) in a large bowl. I may add some onion powder or garlic powder to the mixture too. Then, I cut the nori into 2" strips and then cut THOSE into squares. I take one square at a time and dip it into the marinade and coat it well...it may get soggy and that's fine...then I lay it on the teflex sheet.
Once the whole tray has been filled (or trays) then I dehydrate overnight or until they get really crispy. They're really good and a good replacement for chips. I like them better than kale chips, actually but kale is cheaper than raw nori and so the kale chips are cheaper to make. But if you have a good amount of nori sheets on hand and the rolls aren't quite cutting it for you, then try the nori chips...try with one sheet and see how you like them and don't be afraid to play around with seasonings!
My daughter loves (loved) those spicy potato chips and so she sprinkles cayenne pepper on her (already done) nori chips.

Igor was selling some bread at one of Victoria's lectures I attended. The nori was stuck on the bottom of the bread. Very tasty.

I have been hungry lately for lots of nori. I went to the store yesterday (the 4th) and got two packages of nori, one of laver, and one of Alaria, which is now in season again. I measured 7 g of laver (equivalent to 2 to 3 sheets), soaked it in water, and picked up each piece and looked through its diaphanous purplety, picking out the few snail shells and enjoying the feel. It attaches itself to something with a holdfast and then grows in all directions. Then I ate, but could eat only half of it.
What I like to do with nori is fill it with pico de gallo and roll it up, then eat the roll without cutting.
MCSV laver is Porphyra tenera (at least the package used to say that). Nori is P. yezoensis. It does not, of course, grow in square sheets!

What is pico de gallo?

What is pico de gallo?
Finely chopped tomatoes, onions, cilantro, and often hot peppers mixed together. I add avocado, which moderates the hotness of the peppers.

I LOVE nori rolls.
Make the tuna pate or the mock salmon pate.
Then, add the veggies, roll, and CUT into sushi bites. Your teeth will never do it. The cauliflower (although I told Michelle about it, not sure if she told you about it) is really too soft.
And why not explore other seaweeds? Don't force the nori. The tuna pate has tons of dulse, blended.

I don't like it yet either.
If I let it sit it gets slimy. If I eat it right away it is too fishy for me.
Rawkinlocs, thanks for the ideas for the nori chips. I will have to try that.
None of my family likes it either.
Isn't it funny how some people will love one thing and the person right next to them thinks it is awful.
Thank God we are all different!

I do not like it so I do not eat it.
If my body wanted it I think that I would like it.
