I don't know if this is just a crazy coincedence because it seems too good to be true, but I swear that in the two years that my dogs and cat have been raw, they haven't had ANY fleas and we don't use any anti-flea products at all! Now, I live in Seattle which doesn't have a huge flea problem compared to other areas, but they definitely had fleas before.
Blessings,

Did you give them any garlic or apple cider vinegar in their foods?
I've heard that fleas can't stand those products in the animal's blood.
Cats take to garlic a bit more than vinegar. I haven't tried it myself yet. I just bought a bottle of organic ACV.

My cat was cured of chronic skin problems through the raw diet. (He started on raw about 6 months after me!) He had serious hot spots and was listless and agitated before raw, and now he is mellower. (which is saying a lot because he is a fiesty one.)
We speculate that many of his allergies and skin spots were related to fleas, because once he went raw, the fleas disappeared. We have not used flea treatments since 2004, and we live in Florida, where fleas are normally a problem.
On a side note, I've noticed that personally, when I get bitten by a mosquito I no longer swell up either. I am convinced that raw changes the blood chemistry significantly that the bugs aren't attracted to us in the same way. It's likely no different for the animals. (just my speculation.)

That's excellent! Based on my readings, this should happen when dogs eat a raw diet.

You know, I never put the two together, but I'm sure one has to do with the other. Before I had Zeus eating raw meat/chicken, he was always carrying around fleas. Since I started that when we bought the house, I have not seen them except for when we brought Cleo into the picture. Since then, the two of them are flea free.

Hey, guys and gals.
I've been feeding my dog raw for 7 years and still have flee problems. I also feed the usual ACV and garlic, brewers yeast, etc.
Don't know about cats, but I can say that in South Carolina, feeding raw is not a flee deterrent for my dog. Unfortunately. I go through a fair amount of tea tree oil in his shampoo to keep them at bay.
However, his health other than that is spectacular. He had his annual vet exam a couple of weeks ago and the vet said "whatever you are doing, don't change it". He's a 10 year old 130 pound doberman who, based on size life expectancy, should not have made it past 8 or 9. He's just a big, goofy puppy. His teeth are white, eyes are clear, coat shiny, perfect weight for his size, ears clean, skin clear, etc etc.

Hello there,
Nope, I don't feed any garlic, vinegar, nutritional yeast, etc.... as I consider them highly unnatural. I don't think that dogs and cats would ever eat them in the wild. I only feed raw meat and bones, fruits and veggies and occasionaly a few nuts and/or seeds.
Blesssings,
Audrey
