... avocadoes, pure peppermint oil (is it edible?) honey/agave and cacoa nibs??

Anyone here tried to make icecream with avocado? I did a search and didn't seem to see it. Somehow it seems like it would work but I could be way off. Any thoughts?

I'm experimenting with frozen banana, mint leaves, agave and nibs. Haven't nailed it yet, but I think it's possible. My old garden mint had too strong a vegetable flavor, but I think my new mint plant (in a pot so it won't take over everything ;-) seems closer.

Love the potential visual on the avo. Maybe I'll add a little for both creaminess and color.

I made it with bananers, mint leaves, a touch of coconut milk, and carob chips. Yum.

There is an ice cream thread here somewhere. What about that "base" with some peppermint oil added. I bought some peppermint oil from the spice section, and I've added that to raw fudge...dreamy!!
Good luck.

Wendi, is the peppermint oil you added the same as 100% pure peppermint essential oil you use for massages and aromatherapy? I wasn't sure if it was edible or is the one you use different?

I really didn't want to have to use bananas- sure it works great for icecream, but I get sick of the banana or fruit flavour. That's why I though of avocado because it's flavour is so mild and if you added something to it, it's natural avocado flavour probably wouldn't be detected.

Oh I must try that then... but aren't there little bits of mint leaves in the icecream then?

I wouldn't consume essential oils. They are topical only. You will have to find peppermint extract or use fresh mint.

I just saw a recipe using avacado so I think you are safe. Let me see if I can find it.

i heard somewhere of someone soaking the peppermint leaves in water for awhile..maybe stick in the dehydrator to get the flavors to come out...then use the water in the ice cream. I'm gonna try it when I get some time.

Yeah, good idea... or what about marinating them in coconut oil and then adding that? I guess you'd have to keep the oil on the warmer side so it didn't solidify. Wonder if the oil would soak up the mint flavor....hmmm yes not I have to try!

Yes, avocados have been used for ice creams for ever.
I just typed in "avocado ice cream" into Google and got a ton. Just tweak to make them raw.

I made some earlier this year and it was good. It does require a light hand. You will not want it to taste like frozen sweet guacamole. Combine it with another base, such as cashews or other nut or seed (the coconut was a good suggestion); you don't want the overwhelming avocado flavor.

I tried banana-avocado-agave-mint leaf with good success tonight. This year I planted more of a peppermint, which is doing better than what I had. Still need to work on the chips as they're not sweet enough. May melt some chocolate rock, add agave, resolidify and break into pieces. Enjoying playing with this.
