A couple of recipes have called for this lately. What form should I buy it in? Where in a store can it usually be found?

i have seen it in my healthfood store in a flakey form & a 'powdered' form ( i like the flakes myself) in cardboard tins (like oatmeal) or in clear bags. they also have it at food store in the nature section. if you have a hi speed blender & want to use it in your smoothies- it doesn't matter what form.

Cool! Thank you. I'm thinking more of using it in cakes and the like...

At my HFS we sell it in whole husks, powder, or flakes. I guess it depends on how you want to use it and the texture you prefer. We have it in round cardboard canisters or in the bulk section.

hi! just wanted to let you know, if you don't already, that psyllium husk is a bulk-forming laxative and is the main ingredient in things like metamucil, etc. it swells into a get that you must drink with a lot of water so it does not form a blockage in the esophagus and cause you to choke.
i have seen this in receipies, too, and wondered about its necessity. hmmm, just a thought... :)

I was kind of wondering that myself. with the raw diet don't we get enough fiber in whatever we eat!? Don't worry Beckla I'm not directing this towards you at all.

LOL - thanks for the fair warning!! I figured it was used as a thickener or adherent in some dishes. I'll take care if I do use it. =)

I think some people use it as a "firmer", like, if they are making a cake, and the texture is too moist, they may add psyllium to help it firm up. That would absorb the moisture, so maybe you would not choke!
