I've found a little in the way of "non-dehydrator needed" recipes, but I was wondering what else ya got.

I made that Raw Ice cream (frozen banana + fruit) and discovered that I like raw "cooking" but I can't do that dehydratey stuff, seeing as how I have no dehydrator.

So, using only a food processor and basic kitchen utensils, what options do I have?

Hi there,

I went 2 weeks refusing to order a dehydrator because I loathe kitchen gadgets. Then I gave in and ordered it, but am still waiting for it to arrive. So I've been 4 weeks w/out one and have found a few things that help. Sweets are easy to just make with a food processor or blender (or just eat fruits straight up). Savory dishes are a bit harder, I think. Besides lots of salads and smoothies, I've found these:

Portabella pizzas: sprinkle with olive oil, lemon juice, sea salt. Then layer with basil, almond butter, crushed garlic, tomato. Make a Mexican version with salsa and cilantro.

Stuffed mushrooms: stuff with all sorts of things: pesto, garlic+lemon+nut butter.

Veggie noodles: make carrot or yellow squash noodles with a potato peeler. Soften carrots by marinating or soaking in warm water. Top with marinara, nut butter seasoned like Thai peanut sauce.

Blender soups: use tomatoes, corn, miso, peas, mushrooms, a combo, to make the broth in a blender. Add veggies and seasoning. Warm carefully on the stove; should be no hotter than your finger can take comfortably.

Corn on the cob or peas, warmed in water, with olive oil and sea salt.

Fresh yellow squash "chips" and guacamole.

That's all I can think of now :)

Spinach dip, mock salmon pate or salsa with apple slices or red cabbage triangles to dip into it.

Ha! So, to prelude my post...
a) college student AND actress. ...yeah, poor. and precious little time.
b) no car! that's Boston for ya...
c) No car + in city = can only shop at "normal" stores (Wild Harvest and Trader Joe's is as natural as we get)

So, a couple of things:

1. Easy also means no zany ingredients (raw tahini? what?! where would I FIND that??, heck, what IS that?)...
2. poor means I can't buy that book. Sooooo "Alyssa's ___" is, I'm sure, great but not too helpful.

:)

I should have explained better I guess, but THANK YOU GUYS for all your input. Can always trust this board for a reply!!

*kisses*

PS: SweetGoddess, I'm pretty good... tired as all heck (been shooting/filming on weekends, school during the day, gym, nannying, and then doing homework during the week...) and really trying hard at this raw thing. I'm great during the day (when it's GO GO GO!) but at night when I have three seconds between starting a paper and reading for class, it all falls apart. Oh well. I'm learning.

KISS!!! <- meaning Keep it simple silly :p

Simple eating is really the best. Sure it's fun once in a while to make these fancy recipes but they are not required to get the full benefit of this lifestyle. I clean houses for a living so I live out of my car or someone elses house part of the day, I grab something quick and simple to take with me. My evening meals are usually ones I try and whip something together. I just made some simple cole slaw that I've been eating on the last 3-4 days that was yummy!

Don't stress, relax and KISS(keep it simple sweetie) *mwah* :)

Love,
Angie

Mock salmon pate

Spinach dip

(calls for 'herbamere' which is a salt-free seasoning mix, you could probably use Vegit or something instead)

A salsa recipe

Tons of recipes:

This site has a "super easy" recipe section.

Well, thanks, Sam. BTW, I like your name. A Spanish speaker, are you?

Oh, and KHackett, I forgot to mention soaked grains as cereal. Oatmeal soaked in water and a bit of salt overnight, then mixed with a bit of fruit (raisins, pears, bananas, apples, dates, etc) is an easy meal. Can also mix with herbs and oil to make a tabouli-type thing.

i dont use the dehydrator at all and am very into quick and easy.

I make guacomole a lot.

2 avo's
1 tomato
1/4 onion

in food processor.

that's it

you can add
garlic
lemon
cilantro
if you like

you can buy portobello mushrooms at trader joes
and pile the guacomole on it
add some sprouts
and maybe some braggs liquid aminos if you want.

and that's it.

all the ingredients you can get at Trader Joes accept the Braggs.
which you don't need.

my favorite salad.
kale
sea salt
lemon juice
olive oil
avocado
tomato
sprouts

massage a LITTLE sea salt and lemon into the kale so it wilts then add the rest and add oil and lemon juice as dressing.
I eat this almost every day.

bananas with almond butter ( you can get raw almond butter at trader joes and organic bananas )

hope these little recipes help.

I clean houses for a living ...

Oh, God, Angie, you're AMAZING. I know it's not actually DOING it, but I read a book (Nickle and Dimed) where the author does just that and Jeebus, it's awful.

So, hat off to you.

Pailani? You. Rock. Hard.

Thank you so much everyone!!!!! Keep 'em comin'!
