Just making her acv/sea salt chips and it says to dehydrate them for 5 hours... but ... what temp would people recommend?
Thanks in advance!
Becca
I think 105' will be good. I noticed her other chip recipes are dried at that temp. Good luck!!

Beckla,
Please let me know if the chips get crispy as I've heard people having problems with that.

I actually made these and they are WONDERFUL!!! Mine did get crispy too! I dehydrated them at 105' as well... Be careful NOT to use too much sea salt though!!! I made 3 trays and one of them was saltier than the other 2... Use Sea Salt sparingly...

maybe we didn't make them right..but they were chewy and made the whole place smell like vinegar. Even made the other things in the dehydrator taste like vinegar. So I would suggest dehydrating them alone.

Thanks, gang. I had it at 110 and left it overnight. They're crispy and delicious!!

Beckla,
Thanks, for posting your results. My Excalbur should be coming tomorrow so I can't wait to try this. I already bought some potatoes so I'm all set. How many hours were yours in the dehdrator? You said overnight so I'm thinking about 10 hours or so?

I use my spiral slicer. But you must first score your potato halfway (length - wise) all the way down or you end up with one long spiral. Or you can use a mandolin slicer or your can cut them by hand.

I used the mandolin slicer - thinnest slices.

Thanks for the tips!
I think If I cut them by hand it might take 3 years to dehydrate lol..
I might invest in a slicer :D

Just buy your standard, $3 - 5 buck vegetable peeler and try it out! =)

beppa66,
I hear you, my Excalibur came this morning and I had to run all these errands and I was so bummed because I was dying to make stuff. The minute I got home I whipped up banana's and cherries for fruit leather, I'm slicing potato slices for potato chips and am going to make flax seed crackers with the left over trays.

Did they turn black while dehydrating? Mine are doing that. They're not finished yet though. I read that there is some oxidation involved if they're not treated, but I was wondering if they stay that color when they're finished?

Thanks for posting this thread, I'm supposed to make these tomorrow for my nieces and nephew. Will they stay crunchy if you put them in a ziploc bag or something or do they get soft after a while?

lavenderJ,
I put mine in a plastic ziploc bag and they all got soft. You can put them back in the dehydrator. Honestly I don't like them and last time made them with Yukon Gold. They have a starchy taste to them so I'll stick to zucchini and I'll have to try sweet potato too. You may love them though.

CaliRaw,
Yep they stay kind of that dark grey colour after being done too but it doesn't affect the taste.

Thank you! This is my first time using the dehydrator and I can't wait until they're ready! I wish I'd gotten the 9-tray now. :(

CaliRaw,
At first I was going to get the 5 tray model but am so glad I go the 9 tray now. Especially when I'm making a lot of something or want to stock up it's really handy. In a week I'm up at camp and am making all my own food so I'm glad I have the 9 tray to experiment.
The thing is once you experiment like crazy and make a few batches of things it will even out I think.
