View Full Version : Wal Mart Produce?
Hi All,
I thought I was getting a bargain shopping at the Super wal marts
for produce. But now I'm not so sure! I'm guessing they would buy their
produce the cheapest - from MEXICO! True?
anyone know?
Where does MOST fruits / veggies come from anyway?

I cannot afford organic produce, so I buy mine from Walmart, Sack'n'Save, and occassionally from Central Market and Whole Foods. The non-organic avos at WF and CM have the same stickers on them as the ones from walmart and sack'n'save.
Someone recently posted a list of the the non-org fruits and veggies to avoid since they have the most pesticide residue. Can someone please post the link to the site that anually publishes the list?
I've been soaking my produce in diluted 3% food grade hydrogen peroxide, then I use a really light mist of produce wash and rinse well. Avoiding the worst and washing the rest is the best that I can do until I have the money to afford organic produce. It is natural to be concerned, but for me the positives of eating fresh fruits and veggies outweigh the risk.

I dont know where it comes from, but I suspect a lot at MY walmart comes from a hot house. Sometimes it is so big, and have NO taste.
I no longer buy from them.

I dont buy all organic ,but the non-organic I get comes from central market and whole foods ,Im sure that the non organics there have the same pestacides...but I notice a taste difference ,by the way mexican produce really is like other produce ,alot of it is in central market (an upscale store) and whole foods ,I dont go to wal mart b/c it makes me annoyed and nauseated.............

Here, here on the annoyed and nauseated part! And whether something is from Mexico is neither here nor there. The question is organic or non-organic. Like most of us, I just do the best I can, buy and grow as much organic as I can, and try not to worry too much. BTW, I lived in Mexico for many years, traveled all over, and generally found their ordinary agricultural methods to be superior to our agri-business methods. Just my opinion. :)
