I have a question to add to yours...
Do you have to grind flax seeds to get the nutritional value from them?
Angie

There use to be a cereal out ( may still be ) that used just the plain flax. I use them ground and/or soaked in various things ~ crackers, onion bread, etc. I've not put them in salads or anything in which they are not either soaked or ground. Can't answer your question though.
There's a veggie restaurant not far from me that makes flax-seed tea. Looking for a recipe for it. I'm sure we can use agave as a sweetener rather than sugar.
Injoy ~

They have to be soaked to be raw?

Somewhere I discovered and have this in my health ministry materials:
"I recommend you grind the seeds (or buy ground flaxseed) because whole seeds simply pass through the body. Grinding the seeds just before using them best preserves flavor and nutrition, but pre-ground seeds are more convenient. Keep them refrigerated. There are no nutritional differences between brown and yellow seeds.".
Now, I can attest to the fact that whole ones have passed through - I thought they were bugs - I felt that had larve in my body and for a couple of days - I had bathroom drama until my husband helped me stop tripping.
Kat-Khan there are recipes on that side of the board that contains flax seed - the main one being the infamous onion bread.
I have sprinkled ground flax seed on my salads and added to my smoothies - I am not the greatest fan of flax seed because it get kinda slimy like, and I can taste it - does funny things to my tongue, except of course in the onion bread - that is not flaxy to me.
I hope this answers your questions and yes, the post is correct - so don't frown. We are all learning, some have jut been on the path longer.
