Lately my whole foods market has been stocking MOST of their organic produce from Mexico- and it's the only place in town to buy organics. I've read that agriculture/pollution laws in some countries are nil - and that Mexico's soil has been subjected to an alarming amount of DDT and a long list of other poisons. Is it then possible to grow "organics" at all in Mexico???
I'm scared to eat the tomatoes- yikes!!! - but I wanna dang tomato!

Mexico also has bouts with fecal wind.

They lay out thier sewage to dry, and then it blows into towns and crops.
I learnt that from my geography teacher last year in college.

Just a thought for you.

Well, I'm not sure what to say about the existing soil in Mexico. But the Organic Consumers Union has strict guidelines as to the how, what and where of the produce growing.

I also have never heard of fecal wind!

I buy alot of organic produce from Mexico, and have been for years. I also feed it to my 3 children. We all seem to be doing fine. But, I understand, some things won't show detrimental for years. I still am not scared to eat the organically grown produce from Mexico.
