I've got a whole bag of organic brown lentils that my sister got but decided not to use for a recipe she had , so instead of them going to waste I was wondering whether anybody has any raw recipe for brown lentils ?

i have a pint of lentil sprouts that i sprouted just to see if they would...in my fridge right now... i'll probably blend them in w/my wheat sprouts & make a pizza crust w/ them. depending on how they taste, i may save some to roll in wraps & sushi.

Sprout them and make Alissa's BBQ chicken nuggets (fingers?)

They're good! Just add a tad less and curry than the recipe calls for, IMO. They're strong :) But really good! I'd add more veggie matter to it (maybe broccoli!) and make those every day.

If you are not 100% raw, then use your lentils and make a vegan soup. Easiest thing to do with them, as if you do not know how to sprout, you will just end up throwing them away.

But hey, you got them free - so maybe you should try to sprout them. If it doesn't work out for you, at least you didn't pay for them. By the way, brown lentils do not taste as good as the red lentils - and you might end up throwing them away even if you do successfully sprout them. Which goes back to my original statement, if you are not 100% raw, then maybe just cook them rather than waste them.

Rebecca1...what recipe do you have for taco meat using lentils. I'd love to do that instead of using all the nuts. Thanks! :-)

Why are you sprouting in your fridge? That slows it down or even prevents the sprouting process. I place my already sprouted items in the fridge to prevent growth...
Check this out. There's recipes here too:

I'll def have a go at sprouting them . I'll only use a bit of them so I don't feel that I wasted the whole bag in case it doesn't work right. Thanks everyone , wish me luck .

silly silly veganforlife, i am not sprouting them in my fridge, i am storing my sprouts in the fridge ;)

i was just waiting for inspiration to hit me on how i want to use them. didn't want them turning to full grown lentil plants in the meanwhile.

good thing there was this thread, it made me think of how to use them before they went slimey.

thanks all!

For taco meat, I personally, have substituted half lentils for nuts or seeds in whatever taco meat recipe (there is one with sunflower seeds, and one with walnuts, I think called walnut taco meat floating around the board), and it turns out great.

the lintels seem to be sprouting quite nicely . I started to nibble on a few of them but then late afterwards I actually began to fill a bit sick ...should I be worried?

you could sub lentil for garbonzo beans to make hummus...that might be nice.

Lentil burgers, lentil salad, lentil soup, lentil crackers....

I had some extra lentil sprouts lying around, so I subbed lentils for garbanzo beans. It was really good. I also added some extra salt and extra tahini.
