View Full Version : Ever feel bad after wheatgrass juice?

Last week I had a shot of wheatgrass juice followed by a smoothie chaser at the health food store. I felt fine before, but very shortly afterwards, I started feeling sweaty, overheated, and a little dizzy and nauseous. The overheated, not-feeling-so-good feeling lasted throughout the day, to a milder extent. It was so bad that I had to sit down in front of a fan for a long time before I could continue shopping.

I have to mention that I'm morbidly obese, pregnant, and have been raw only a month. I can't say for sure it was the wheatgrass, but it sure did come on quick right after I drank it. Has anyone else experienced this the first time they had wheatgrass juice? Could it be a sudden flash of detoxing from the juice, or could it be that the juice is too strong for me to drink when pregnant?

Thanks!

I also have a strange reaction after a shot of wheatgrass. I get dizzy and a little "high" feeling. I can sometimes get so dizzy I feel a little queasy. However when I drink it mixed with other juices, diluted, I feel wonderful. Might work for you?

I knew it was the wheatgrass juice! That's a good idea, I'll try diluting it. I was drinking it straight because I know mixing it with a smoothie just ruins the taste of the whole smoothie. But maybe if I mix it with a few ounces of juice, and then have a smoothie chaser, that will help.

I just couldn't figure out why the wheatgrass juice would do that when I had a full stomach already. But maybe diluting it will help. Thanks!

I have heard from so many people who have had the same experience with wheatgrass juice.
Some say it is from the mold and you should grow it outside.

ive tried wheat grass SO many times! EVERY time i get sick, when i mix it with any kind of citrus chaser i get crazy tummy problems, and even without the citrus i get crazy sick. like an instant headache and queasy. my body is pretty tolerable of most things i eat, but not wheat grass!

I never had wheat grass YET (about to grow my own).

But I juice spinach, broccoli, carrots, kale celery and beet.

That’s my favorite recipe I get a nice sweat wave and high from this all the time!

I juice for them; I love them! Never got sick though

Yes, it happens to a lot of people! You can work up a "tolerance" to it after drinking it for a week or so, gradually working up the number of shots at a time if you felt like it! I dumped my wheatgrass shots into a large apple juice and drank it slowly when I first started out. I also think it might help not to drink it on an empty stomach, but that might not work for everyone.

Enjoy!:D

It is a very very powerful blood cleanser!

Many with cancer almost always puke it up immediately. Very tell-tale. That is why a lot of them do implants (take it rectally after a colonic or enema).

Please don't detox too quickly! Morbidly obese = a LOT of toxins, and all raw and wheatgrass on top of pregnancy is a LOT of heavy detoxing. Not recommended while pregnant, generally.

Yes I would have to agree

I would not reccomend going raw while pregant, especially depending on your current condition....I would definitely include lots of fresh raw food into your diet but also maintain steady cooked foods (wholesome foods, of course) for as long as you are pregnant and nursing :)

Wheatgrass juice should be taken on an empty stomach. Try mixing it with water or using a water chaser. It will mix immediately with toxins in the stomach, causing the feelings you were having. Take slow sips, and drink less until your body wants more.

OMGosh you gotta read Green For Life! I'm reading it right now & she talks about how the reason most people can't stomach much of it is because we have low hydrochloric acid from eating an unnatural diet. She talks about how we need to eat more like chimpanzees do if we want optimal health. She says that after doing green smoothies for a bit she was able to drink 15 dollars worth of wheatgrass at a juice bar now and LOVE the taste!

that very well could have been the alcohol. all that stuff is fermented and feels like a solid beer to me.

Thanks, SchoolofRAWk, I didn't know you shouldn't take it during pregnancy. If it's as detoxing as you say, then it sounds like I should stay away from it for a while.

Don't worry, I'm not all raw yet. Everyone says go 80-90% for now, to avoid detoxing. Actually, sad to say, I've been off the wagon for a few weeks. And I feel AWFUL! I was actually dumb enough to have some sugary stuff a few days in a row this week, and the pain in my pubic bone and my back came back with a vengence. Ugh! Nothing like horrific pain to send you back to raw!! That, plus the nine pounds I gained. It's mostly water weight, but that doesn't make me feel that much better!

Today I was back to mostly raw, and already I feel a bit better. It wasn't organic raw, but I'll be back on organics by Friday, when we have more money. I'm only three weeks away from giving birth, so I can't be messing around anymore.

(As a side note, I was in the hospital for a few days last week, and I wanted to strangle the nutrition staff...they kept trying to starve me to death, I had to beg for more food, and though they EVENTUALLY brought me raw food, the next day they mysteriously lost all my dietary requirement info. It was food hell. I will be bringing a plug-in refrigerated cooler full of raw food with me to the birth. If we can afford it, I may have it stocked with meals from the local raw food restaurant. Heh heh.)
