How long to soak walnuts?

I am going to try to recreate a recipe for some "living" walnuts I got at the health food store. I know they contain soaked and dehydrated walunts, but I don't know how long to soak them for. I've never actually soaked my walnuts. Can anyone give me a time frame? Thanks!

Alissa recommends in her book to soak 3 dry cups of walnuts or other nuts for 6-8 hours. Almonds need soaked much longer 3 dry cups of almonds need soaked for 24-48 hours.

I don't do almonds. I'm allergic. I didn't realize the soak time was in Alissa's book. I have the book around somewhere. Thanks!

I do not soak my walnuts.
I am pretty sure that I read somewhere that the softer nuts (including walnuts) do not need soaking and I do think that it spoils the taste.
Any comments to the contrary will be welcome.

walnuts have a bitter enzyme inhibitor that will rinse off when soaked a spell.

I have tried to find some information to back up my habit of not soaking my walnuts (I do soak all other nuts and seeds other than pine nuts) but can not find anything.
My only defense is that I like them that way.

I have not had Alissa's book long so all the info is fresh in my mind. She says if you don't have time to soak don't worry about it. I do not have a dehydrator as yet so I don't soak the nuts I eat. I tried leaving them out to dry, but did not have good results. I read else where that nuts with a brown coating are the ones that you should soak.

I don't normally soak my walnuts but I am trying to recreate a recipe for something I've bought and it uses soaked walnuts. I think part of the reason for soaking is to get the sweet coating to adhere.
