I bought some hard rye berries cause I want to make Alissa's rye bagels, do I just soak these things, and will they soften up?

Yes, and yes. Use Alissa's chart - sprouting/soaking chart - I forget what page it's on - 107? Something like that? I love the Rye bagels - so good, especially with the egg-less egg spread. Yum-OH!
I have never made the "bagels" but I add water and some flax to the mix and make rye crackers almost every week. I let the rye soak about 8 hours then sprout for about a day.

Soak them overnight, then leave them on an angle, tilted, upside down in the jar (like with any other sprouting - are you familiar with what I'm describing?) and after about a day they sprout great.
Just an FYI, last time I had to like throw out all the batter. I tried to CHEAT and just soak the seeds. They were still too gritty....

Thanks everyone - I've started soaking the rye berries and hopefully this will work. I'll let them sprout a couple of days, and then see what I get. I hope these taste good. I know I used to love rye bread, I wonder if they taste like that. I wanted to make cream cheese but I don't have anymore macadamias - I made a cheese cake the other day and used all I had for the crust. I do have a bunch of raw cashews though. What topping to make for these?? Maybe like Lucy suggested the egg salad spread?

gg - I too loved a good rye bread and these really hit the spot. I've even shaped the "dough" into rye sticks (a little tedious, but it worked - had to wet my hands before shaping each one). These are very good. Even good with tomato/avo and sprouts.
