Will this thing do the trick? I don't have 400 for the other blender, but if this thing is not adequate, I'm not interested.
I'll be making smoothies (once I find one that doesn't make me want to barf) and I'll be wanting to grind up nuts and flax seeds and stuff to make porridge and whatever else you need to grind up. Beans?
I have no idea what I'm doing, being a noob, but I don't want to waste $ on stuff that is not good enough.
What do you think? Any other blenders out there that aren't $400 that are as good as the Vitamix Blender?
Any help for an idiot is appreciated.
I wish I was enthusiastic about this raw food stuff. But my wife has no interest in this stuff. I'm on my own. She'll be eating hot pockets till she's 80 years old.

I have a cheap 25$ oster blender from walmart, and it actually works really great with green smoothies. The greens get blended up smooth (all except for kale, which leaves a little texture). It's great for salsa and guacamole type things, and it does well with nuts and seeds, too.
I also have a pretty cheap food processor (about 50$) from walmart. I don't use it daily, but it's great for chopping up nuts as well.
I haven't heard of the blender you mentioned, but if you don't want to spend the money on the big vitamix yet, some cheapos DO work really well. :)

a vitamix is great, and worth the cash, but by no means essential.
I have a cheap Hamilton Beach blender that's over 10 years old and it makes a fine fine smoothie, even with greens. I use it for nuts and nut milk too. The cheap blenders aren't as fast as the $$$$ ones, but they do a fine job if you have 2 extra minutes.

I agree with these folks. I do have a VM. I purchased it through a Run Raw team here on the forum - helping them raise $$$ to spread the raw news. You may want to check eBay, overstock.com, yard sales, thrift stores, etc. for a VM or a blender. I know Alissa sells the Tribest and folks DO like that. Hey, even if it's not a VM and you're whiping up a green smoothie - your body will love you for it!

what about for grinding nuts and stuff? I don't know what you'd need to do that for. I've heard of grinding flax seeds and beans. Keep in mind I have no idea what I'm talking about. I read that the tribest will grind beans and flax seeds.
I bought some ground flax seed and wheat germ. I guess you mix it in with smoothies?
Stoopid noob ha? LOL :D

It's a "personal" blender. It's not made to do what even a regular off-the-shelf Hamilton Beach or Black and Decker is made to do. I use it for traveling only.
It does a wonderful job on flax seeds. Why are you grinding beans?
By the way, there's a difference between being ignorant (not knowing) and stupid. I almost didn't respond because I'm not fond of people calling themselves stupid. You just don't know... doesn't mean you're stupid. Got it? ;)

I used one not as often as I should. For smoothies, first with water mix the greens, then add the veggies/fruit. Tip you just got to save motor which I realized late. I like lightweight too, but lots more expensive as well. Have not used for grinding anything but smoothies or sauces/soups.

I have a vita mix and I love it, for big jobs.
However, I have a magic bullet that I REALLY love for smaller jobs. I make my green smoothies to go in individual glasses. I make many different smoo thies. I make fruit sorbet's in the smaller cup. I make my pesto for my chinese squash w/pesto. It is a perfect size for me.
I can't say enough about it. It was only $59. small enough to fit on the counter and not take up too much room.

I was assuming you need beans in your diet too right? The ones in the can are cooked and the raw ones are hard as a rock. So, I thought you grind them down into powder and put that in drinks and stuff.
As mentioned, I have no idea what I'm talking about :D

I betcha if you purchased Alissa's book and DVD and read and watched, you'd know a whole lot more. Do you have her book and DVD?

No, I don't have it yet. I'll order it next week. I've only been contemplating this 3 days. I've already gone 3 days with no junk food, but still eating meat. I don't really care for the meat though. I notice a difference slightly eating the good stuff I've been eating the past few days.

No, you don't. IF you want beans in your food program, you would sprout them, not grind them.
PLEASE! Get Alissa's book and dvd's. At the very least, look here: http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/index.php and scroll down to "The Food" section. You'll see many recipes and information on raw food recipes, preparation and sprouting.
Find a level 1 teacher in your area (listed on www.AlissaCohen.com) who will help you get started and whom you can ask questions up close and personal.
In the meantime, eat what is edible without ANY processing ~ fruit, vegetables, greens, seeds and nuts and you'll be doing better than most.
