View Full Version : No Fruit Green Smoothie

After trying to make a green smoothie I realized that I didn't find the taste of the sweet fruit mixed with greens all that appealing. I really wanted to taste the greens... not mask the flavor with sweetness. I love fruit- practically live on it- but would like my green smoothies to taste more... well, green. More savory I think. Maybe with a bit a lemon juice or a tomato or cucumber or an avocado added to the greens. Maybe even a few spices...

I think you can't really go wrong. Just add your greens, put maybe 1/2 avocado (or the whole) and then add a tomato or two.
Then some garlic cloves, spices/salts and bam, blended salad :)
I also want to add that alot of Alissa's soups could easily be turned into what you're talking about. Just follow the recipe but add more greens to it : )

Thanks SmilingRawDancer... the soup recipes are just the ticket. In fact, I think I just wanted soup all along.

Here is my alternate-day HIGH ANTI-OXIDANT Raw Beet Smoothie:
2c water (warm if desired)
3 or 4 Sundried Tomato halves (or 2 fresh tomatoes)
1/2 - 1 Lemon - Juiced
1 clove Garlic
1 tsp Tumeric
1/4 tsp Cayenne Pepper or less if desired
Small handful Parsley
Large handful Greens - can be spinach, beet tops or kale, etc.
Fresh Dill if desired - it gives it a more authentic "borscht" flavour.
1 med Beet, diced
Place all in blender in order given. Blend until smooth. IF you have a high powered blender you can run it until it is a warm soup, but this is great cold too. Something like a cold borscht. Great for summer, right along with Gazpacho.
Can add: Shiitake Mushroom
If you want it creamy, add 1/2 c of cashews with the water.
