View Full Version : My Vitamix has arrived! - any recipe ideas to christen it?

My Vitamix arrived this morning (jumping around with excitement) and I only had time to make a quick 'whole juice' before I had to leave for work - threw in a few carrots, two apples, stick of celery, bit of raw ginger and water, and the result was OK, but not fantastic

Anybody got any super recipe ideas to help me christen it properly and that I can try over the weekend?

Cheers x

I just have to share. I ordered my vita-mix today! I hope you don't mind me stealing a bit of your thread Bampot. :-) I can barely do work right now and it's Friday too?! I got the vitamix that has that extra small container in addition to the two other containers. Talk about psyched! Victoria B.'s book is really helping also. She has some good info. in that book. Thanks for reading!

LOL, Lucy, how did I know you'd suggest a green smoothie????

:D

Lucy's right, though. Green smoothies are fast, easy and deeeeeelicious.

Ooh yeah can't wait to try out some green smoothies with it - I've been doing them in a standard blender and am hoping it will be an even more super dooper experience with my Vitamix!

Oh how I love it already - its sooo powerful. And I was having a really annoying time last night trying to make a desert using frozen bananas, medjool dates, cocoa powder and avocado - my blender was grumbling big time. So can't wait to lob in some frozen stuff and watch it blitz it all with ease hee hee :D

Not sure what eggless egg thingy is but I'll run a search for it, ta for your ideas folks, keep em coming! ;)

Bampot,

One of my favorite things in the Vita is young coconut, frozen banana, vanilla, and cacao. Tastes like a frappachino on steroids. :)

Ooh the egg-less raw deviled egg spread looks fab! Will try that one tonight for sure! (rubs hands with anticipation....)

Have ordered Alissa's book and dvd so can't wait for them to come - sounds like there are some great recipes in there, and think the dvd will be really useful for me as I'm new to this raw thing (my poor bank balance though, vitamix, books, dvds sigh - but the results will be worth it I reckon)

Thanks for the recipe RawVee - haven't managed to track anywhere in Glasgow yet that sells young coconuts - but I have seen coconut water cartons, so maybe I can use that instead?

I've got cheesecake on my mind and so that's my 2 cents...I heard people mention a while back on past threads that the vita mix is great for really blending and creaming things---

Enjoy!

Bampot - you can add chopped celery to it and that is yummy too. I usually just dip veggies in it. It IS good!
You are gonna love your VM! I use mine daily. Sometimes 2x a day. Avo/choc. pudding is another good recipe.
The possibilities are endless! Good stuff!

I love to make my version of V-8 juice in it. Comes out so good, it's amazing!!
I also love to make fresh fruit sorbets. Very refreshing on a hot summer day. YUM!:D

Can you tell me your recipe for V-8 juice Jeannie? Sounds tasty!

Lucy - I'll try the adding celery tip as I have a whole packet to get through in the next couple of days anyway

Avo - choc pudding - I guess that's like the one I was making last night (with difficulty!) using avos / frozen bananas / cocoa and dates - mmmm

Totally make cashew sour cream!

I do not have a good blender.

I would prolly have better luck hitting a bag of cashews with a bat a few times then my silly blender making it.

If my blender could talk I think it would say some thing like: Damn yo! a whole banana! cut it up first!

So make that and think about us poor saps that must eat chunks!

Ha ha that's exactly how I felt last night when my blender was throwing a wobbler about mixing frozen banana and dates. It was getting all hot and bothered and I'm pretty certain if it could have spoken it would have been cursing me under its breath!

[QUOTE=Bampot;286129]Can you tell me your recipe for V-8 juice Jeannie? Sounds tasty!

oh yes!

I played around with it until I got the right taste, You might have to do the same to get it to your liking. The biggest taste is tomatoe with the rest added for the right flavor. I absolutely love this drink.:D

I put in 3-4 big plump tomatoes, 1 stalk of celery, 1 garlic clove 1 carrot , chunk of onion ,half of a cucumber, handful of parsley, sea salt & cayenne pepper.

I add water and blend. Stop and taste....if you put too much or too little salt & pepper it makes a difference. It has to be "just the right amount"
For a "twist" you can add a slice of lemon to the mix.
Let me know how yours comes out. :D

Hmm, you may want to look online for a delivery option? I don't know anything about the coconut water cartons, but I do know that once opened, the nutritional value of the water depletes with time. I'm wondering if it's pasteurized or something...

But, at least you live in an absolutely gorgeous country. Full of men whose accents make me weak at the knees. ;)
