How much juice do you drink, what kind, and how do you feel?
I am wondering, because I drink about 20 ounces a day and feel good. But when I manage to drink other 20 ounce cup, it feels even better and once it even stopped my tooth from hurting(I skipped dinner that night and just had a juice). In the best of the worlds I wish I would drink more everyday, but it is hard to find time.

I rarely ever drink juice. If I do it is almost always lemon or lime juice in water. There are times when I'll go for several days drinking large bottles of water with the juice of a whole lemon and 1/2 a lime mixed in. I feel lighter and more energetic when I do. I did this a lot when I lived in NY. I could get lemons and limes for cheap there. Here they are more expensive so I tend to do this only if I am not feeling well or have a craving for it.

I drink carrot/cucumber/beet/celery juice with cholrella almost every night. I only drink about 1 cup.
I drink it before bed because it is easy to digest. I always wake up feeling good when I do this!

Most of the time I have about 24 oz of green lemonade for breakfast. Sometimes I have a green smoothie. Two years ago when I was practicing macrobiotics, I never would have believed I would now be starting my day with juice. I do labor for a living as I'm a housecleaner and after much experimentation with different breakfasts, I absolutely find I'm most energetic after drinking the the green lemonade. And I just love the zingy taste.
Ideally, I'd like to do another shot of green juice later in the afternoon but it doesn't really happen.

I have just started a juice fast two days ago. First four or five days will be apple juice and lemon juice only.
Today I have drank 9 cups of apple juice mixed with a touch of lemon juice.
How I feel...well, I was on cooked foods prior to starting this fast. I have juice fasted in the past. Today, I have a clean feeling, like I just stepped out of a bath. Also, it is very hot this time of year in my part of USA (Texas). Before starting this fast, the heat was making me feel tired, and sometimes giving me headaches. Also, it was simply uncomfortable. Well, now the heat feels good, and I don't get hot so quick. I know from past experience with fasts that in a couple more days, I will stop getting headaches and tiredness from the heat as well.
Sometimes though, after like about nine days into a fast, I will start to feel a little in my chest like I am not getting enough oxygen. A feeling like I have been underwater and holding my breath. This usually happens when I am having vegetable juices only, and no fruit juice. If I start drinking fruit juice, the bad feeling lessens.
Good for you, you are drinking alot of juice! It is so good for you, much better than from bottles, cans, or jars in the store. :)

I tend to drink about 1 litre (a quart) of juice a day, either just carrot or carrot and apple. Sometimes I add something green to that.

I drink a minimum of 24 oz a day broken up into 3 glasses spread out during the day. I drink mostly carrot combos. Carrot/ginger is one of my favorites. Once in awhile I add a green lemonade during the day. Juice makes me feel great. I do a glass before I go to the gym for a workout in the morning and I never run out of gas. I always did on a cooked breakfast or just fruit for breakfast.

Hi All,
I am completing Day 2 of Alissa's 30 day raw challenge and so far so good. I like to try new things and so if you don't mind please share the recipes for green lemonade and various carrot juices, thanks.

I originally got this idea from Natalia Rose's book The Raw Food Detox Diet. It's changed the course of my life! I kid you not. I thought I was genetically inclined to be lethargic. LOL! I was wrong.
It's basically this; this is what I make.
three apples- I love Granny Smith greens
a big handful of greens: chard/spinach/kale/parsely/cilantro/collards etc.
a whole lemon, peel and all, I cut it into eigths to accomodate my trusty Champion juicer.
options: cucumber
celery
ginger
You get the idea. So worth trying it. If you do, let us know!
Also, my recipe above makes a lot. It's basically my breakfast and lunch; then I do a little snack in the afternoon before dinner. It could be made with smaller proportions. Sometimes I put the finished product in the Vita-mix blender with ice for a good whirl or just ice it. You're going to love the whole lemon affect. All of those bioflavanoids with just drive you silly.

I do the Green Lemonade as Stina described. I use all kinds of variations for the carrot juice. A really good book to get for juicing is Jay Kordich's book, "The Juiceman's Power of Juicing". It's not expensive and it is a great little book. You can do just about any combination with carrot but make the carrot the better part of your juice. Like 6 ozs to 2 or 3 ozs of greens, or beet, or potato, or just about anything. Apple is about the only fruit that you can mix with carrot. I buy fresh ginger root and juice about a 1" or 2" size piece in with my juice. Depends on how spicy you like it. YUMMERS!! :D

I make a really strong effort to start every day with 30oz of a simple green lemonade (a head of romaine, 2 apples, 1/2 lemon). It kicks my butt into gear each morning. I would do it again in the afternoon if I were at home with my juicer!

question: if you have a vitamix do you need a juicer in order to make "juices" ???? I only have a vitamix and no juicer so I'm wondering if I have to buy a juicer as well in order to not make just smoothies but juices too...

The lady that's doing that 92 juice feast is using her vitamix and just straining it through cheese cloth.

Britaniefaith, your transformation was awesome..
I need to loose about 50 pounds myself..
I am working on it..
Belleadonna and Stina, I have been looking for a juice combination
that would help me start working out again..
I lost 50 lbs going from 250 to 199 last year
however i was on a regular vegan diet and
i was not replenishing my system, so my workouts
wore me out.. I was doing 1 hr on treadmill at 4.5 mph
needless to say I quit, gained all the weight back,..
no energy.
I have a jacklalane juicer, do you guys think this is sufficient
or should I move to a champion..
also what does this vitamixer I keep seeing you guys post on do?

That's an awful lot of cardio and tough on the knees. Do you lift weights? I only lift. I seldom do cardio. I do almost exclusively carrot combos in juicing. I drink and 8-10oz glass before I lift for an hour and that keeps me. You will need to experiment to find out what is right for you. Some do better on a heavier breakfast. After I lift, I do another glass of carrot/whatever juice and maybe have a banana. That is all I have till lunch. Then I either eat alot of fruit or I have a huge salad. I usually mix romaine and spinach and put just 1/2 tbsp of olive oil and vinegar. Sometimes I add olives. On the side I have raw radishes, cukes, and tomatoes. For some reason I like them separate with no dressing. Later in the day I have more fruit and another glass of juice. For dinner I have a small salad and a small portion of cooked food; usually brown rice or steamed veggies. Later I will have fruit if I am hungry; maybe raisins.
Try and see what works best for you. We are all different.
I am sure that a Jack LaLanne will do. A Champion is good for continuous juicing but is way more expensive and a little harder to clean. I have an Omega that I like but its not too cheap either.

Hi Belleadonna, Yes I was also on a weight lifting routine.. and I was supplementing myself with amino acids, particulary L-Glutamine.. which
helps to protect and build muscle.. I did not have any problems
in that area.. thanks to the supplementation.. However I was physically exhausted because at that time i was not raw.. and I was not drinking
the juice combos as you have now suggested.. I think for me since I am a big guy.. I would probalby need a heavy smoothie..especially for the protein,
and combating my initial hunger that I will get when I move to raw and juicing..
I am going to try that green lemonade, and definetly be using carrots for my other juices.. you guys gave some great suggestions with that..
I have heard that carrots contain one of the highest forms of beta-carotene and vitamin a.. these are big time cancer killers!..
thanks Belle

Yup, it is loaded with beta carotene. It is a great cancer protector especially if you are out in the sun alot. If your skin turns a little orange from drinking the carrot juice, don't be alarmed. It is merely your liver getting rid of the toxins through your skin. Some people think that you turn orange because of the orange color in the juice. But that is not true anymore than you don't turn green if you eat alot of greens or broccoli.
Yes, as a male you will most likely need more calories before you lift. Just listen to your body. It will lyk what it needs and when. Good luck.

In America, carrots are the leading source of beta carotene. Beta carotene is the most active form of carotenoids, which are pigment substances in plants that can often form vitamin A. The major contributions vitamin A makes to the human body are to promote growth; for visual light and color; to prevent drying of the skin and eyes; for maintenance of the digestive and urinary tracts; and to enhance resistance to bacterial infection. Vitamin A has also been linked to cancer prevention. A deficiency in vitamin A can cause symptoms such as night blindness; poor growth; dry skin; and xerophthalmia or "dry eye," which can promote blindness due to a lack of mucus production by the eye. Carrots also contain the vitamins B, C, D, E, and K; the minerals calcium, phosphorous, potassium, sodium, and traces of other minerals; and a trace amount of protein. Calcium helps to strengthen bones, teeth, and the intestinal walls. The high mineral levels in carrots contribute to healthy skin, hair, and nails. Carrots also work as a sort of cleanser for the liver, and when consumed regularly, can help the liver excrete fats and bile.
