i have hypERthyroid. are sea veggies supposed to be of help to me or hinderance? also are there any other specific foods anyone knows of that may help me? i've been raw about a month and no change in my thyroid problem yet. i may have high expectations but i was hoping for some improvement by now.

I've been raw for 2 months now. I'm hypo also. I just had my lab work done and was way off the charts. My dr.was not happy with me for taking myself off of my synthroid. I was on the highest dose they make. Now I have to start on 112MG again. I so wanted to get off meds. I was feeling so many effects from not taking my meds. I was so tired, I could hardly move. I told him I was on raw food and he got upset with me. He said. "don't you think we'd tell every patient to eat raw and just get off meds it it really worked?" He said these days you can't trust the integrity of foods. What with so much gmo and lab manipulated foods and all. He said I am playing russian roulette with my health and I should just take my synthroid. He said that it is just thyroid replacement and not a drug like say a narcotic.

I think it's more a matter of the cause of your thyroid problem. In my case, a cause was never found nor was it looked for. My problems began during my pregnancy and I was swinging around from hypo to hyper. Very frustrating. I do not think it's a good idea to take yourself off thyroid meds if you are not in range because an out of whack thyroid can cause all kinds of problems. As for diet, I think the best thing you can do is avoid the goiterogenic foods. Not sure about sea vegetables. I tried dulse once and didn't care for it.

I agree about the med thing, I wouldn't take myself off, at least not abruptly. Your thyroid may not function well overnight and its unrealistic to expect it to. Over the past two months, I have gradually seen improvements, but I know to see a dramatic change can take months.

My last blood test indicated that I was slightly Hypo as well. I have been raw for 2 years and I did not have this result before raw so I do not know what is going on.
Maybe we were meant to be a little hypo.

I'm back on synthroid 112mg. I will not take myself off any more.:o I just wanted to be "all natural" and raw.

Responding to the original poster, high-iodine foods are not good for someone who is hypothyroid, they ARE GREAT for someone who is hypOthyroid. So for you, I'd say no to those seaweed foods becuase they contain a ton of iodine.

Didn't they do a thyroid ultra sound on you? They did on me and my thyroid is "lobulated"...whatever that means. It basically means it doesn't work. lol
It wasn't a good idea to take myself off, I've had some awefull side effects. I'm back on now. I bought some dulse and some seaweed products but have a hard time making myself eat them. They taste yukky to me.

Oh Jeannie - so sorry you felt horrid effects from taking yourself off your meds. That I wouldn't do. In fact, DIDN'T do, even though I wanted to, I did wait until I had been raw a good number of months and knew how my body felt. I also have yet to tell my doc that I'm 100% raw. He knows I don't eat meat, dairy, soy, etc. So you were on 300 mcg? YIKES! And you took yourself off after only being raw two months. Darn girl, which you would have e-mail me. NO WAY DO THAT!!! I do not advocate ANYONE taking themselves off their meds. I only suggested to my doc because He was going to lower it again (I had only two more doses then I'd be at the lowest dose available). You've got to give your body a good while to become used to being raw. 2 months is NOT long enough!
I don't know about the original question being posted. I can't, nor won't answer - won't even attempt it. Sorry.
