every afternoon I have a big fruit smoothie. I've had several people mention to me that I should add super food to it... the green spirulina and chlorella algae stuff. I'm not down with the snake oil sales pitch that I received at the health food store, so I thought I would see how the folks here use the stuff. it's kind of pricey but if it will increase my energy levels and just make me feel good I'd be interested in giving it a try. what kind of experience do you have with superfoods/algae supplements? what brand do you like?
an interesting article (http://www.newstarget.com/001539.html)
Dr. Schultz's is the brand that was recommended to me
and, apologies if this has been posted before - I did a search on "superfood" and ended up with this HUGE list of results and still couldn't find exactly what I was looking for!

I don't know if barley greens count as superfood or not, but I used to put them in smoothies when I was eating more SAD, and I thought they made a huge difference. I recommend barley greens, anyway, although I am out and haven't bought any for a while, since I went raw

For me, in my body, using a superfood mix is essential and feels absolutely wonderful and balancing. I use vitamineral green, and spirulina, and honestly don't feel that my raw diet would be complete without them. I feel like they provide the nutrients and minerals that are not there in the organic food I buy.
I can't comment on the brand that was recommended because I've never used it, but I think that most superfood powders are mostly "filler" ingredients are less than excellent.
Yes they are expensive, but I figure when I use the powders I eat less, so it's all worth it.

I think that there is a place for them in your diet if for some reason the real deal is not available but only then.
They can not compete with adding fresh greens to your smoothie.

I think that if you are not getting enough greens in your diet it would be a good idea to add a green powder, but I think it would be better to add real greens. I juice a lot of greens. I can't get a taste for the thick texture of green smoothies. I want to grow some wheatgrass, but have not tried that as yet. Friends who know that I am going raw have started giving me stuff to juice! Juicing is fun, and it is going to be so cheap to do as our garden and our friends gardens are in full production.

I personally have been using Alissa's green food powder and Pacifica Spirulina and have noticed a tremendous difference. My skin, my energy, my stamina, my mental clarity, my thyroid healing.
I add these in addition to fresh greens in my smoothies.

Wheat grass is gluten free. I dont remember the whole explanation on it though....but it something you can look it. I'm not diagnosed as Celiac, (my doctor didn’t want to test me) but I sure as heck cant eat gluten either and I take wheat grass on a regular basis.
