Hi!
My barley did not sprout - it turned PINK after a 2 days of rinsing etc.
What kind of barley is meant in Alissa's Chili recipe? Is it pearl barley?
Thanks!

According to all I've heard, Pearled Barley does not sprout, thus no one uses it.
I bought some without knowing this, however, soaked it overnight, and blended it with a banana and cinnimon the next morning for a gruel type dish. It was great. It's kind of like how some people don't use steel-cut oats. It's a purist issue I think.

I LOVE Alissa's chili especially topped with her onion dip...mmm mmm good! I was just thinking today to get some barley going to make some! But use hulled "regular" barley (without the hull). Looks "kinda" like wheat berries, but there's a slight noticeable difference.
But you really could make the rest of the ingredients without the barley at all - for ME, the barley adds texture and a sorta "meatiness" or for some, it could be like having rice in it - but I have also made it sans the barley with just the veggies, etc. and it was still just as good!

Ya know, I never thougth of doing that? Gotta try that since I'm sans barley right now!
Thanks!
I second the chili from Rainbow Green Live Foods and it is amazing. The recipe is posted in this forum by Yani.
