I am new to the eating raw and I don't want my fresh fruits and veggies to go bad cause I don't know how to store them.

Can anyone give advice on the best ways to keep thing from going bad?

Any fruit or veggie would be great!

hello? Is anyone out there?

Ok well I think the best way to keep my spinich from wilting is filling a bowl of cold water and putting it in the fridge with a cover. Is this ok?

I think that would work. Also at some health food store they sell green bags. They help keep your produce fresh for I think a week or so longer.

I recently bought some of those green bags and I do not think that they help at all.
The bottom drawers of your fridge are designed for fruit and veg and I am amazed at how fast my greens will wilt if they are placed in the body of the fridge and not in the drawers

The green bags didn't help me out either. However, what did work for me is a few small baskets. I found a few perfect size baskets with holes in them at the dollar store. I take my produce out of the store bags and put them in the baskets. I have them arranged nicely and I think the air circulating around them help to keep them fresh. I still use the drawers for some things. I also had to adjust the temperature control in my fridge. I now have a nicely clean and organized fridge and better access to my fruits and veggies.:D I like it.

Most fruits I can keep out on the counter. When the get ripe or cut up they go into the fridge. My berries always go into the fridge unwashed until I'm ready to use them. Fruit that gets too ripe is cut up and frozen for smoothies.

I too have tried the Evert bags for my greens. They might make a difference. Well, they probably do. I have some greens that have been in the fridge for over a week and are still crispy and fine. They were in the bags but not in the drawer.

My routine with the greens is to wash, dry as best I can (shake, leaving it out for a bit, dot with towel, whatever works), wrap in paper towel and store in plastic bag. Squeeze all the air out as possible and seal air tight.

I still don't have an organizational system that I like but I'm working on it. We just moved and I'm still figuring things out.

Dang, I wonder what kind of green bags you guys bought, cuz mine RAWK!

They keep my produce at LEAST a week or even two longer and they keep it fresh and crispy.

I know, because I tried putting kale in one and leaving the other kale in the crisper and the green bagged kale lasted almost 10 days longer!

Hmmmm.... strange, huh?

I recently bought a case of oranges.
I kept a few out on the counter, and stuffed the rest into the fridge.
What I noticed was that after about a week, the fridged ones started sort of drying out a bit?
The ones on the counter, after a while, would mold?
So honestly, I think the best thing if possible is to pick up your produce maybe twice a week and not try to store it too long.

LOL....I think a better question to ask is what bags do YOU use that works so well for you.LOL
I'd spend more money to get ones that actually work well. I bought mine at whole foods. I was very upset they didn't hold up.

I agree with you about buying a couple of times a week. I started buying smaller amounts more frequently and my spoilage is reduced to almost none. Plus I love my new basket system. It really works for me.
That is a big savings to me.:)
