In the very beginning years ago when I started this path, I wanted no fruit whatsoever. It was all about the veggies.

Then about 4 months later, I started adopting fruit...a little at a time until I wanted ALL fruit. I thought I reached a level of Super Being! I felt so wonderful, you would have thought I could spend the rest of my life only eating fruit, fruit, fruit. My teeth started hurting, I was growing pale, I started to get off the raw path & we all know how the rest finishes.

So I seem to be back at veggies only. This leaves me with only 500 cals a day. I feel my best PHYSICALY on this path. I'm not flying through the clouds- as before on all fruit, but the opposite is awesome (feeling grounded & content) My urine is clear once again & all is well.

Ppl really freak out on this site about calories. "You're not eating enough... you should have 1500 cals" Doesnt Alissa say "Just eat raw..eat when you are hungry.. etc etc etc?" I'm at a point right now where it's hard to trust raw because ppl say so many things.

Just wanted to vent. I would love to read other ppl's comments on this. I'm so tired of ppl saying the opposite of what Alissa says. We are on a lifestyle that doesnt NEED to count calories anymore! There is no such thing as a "little shackled". I chose this life because I wanted FREEDOM!

I dont read much that low calories is OKAY. That there is security in low cal. That, on low cal, you are not harming yourself!

500 calories a day does not seem like enough to me. Extreme weight loss diets might cut back to 800 but rarely more than that. I'm sure you could do the occasional day or days on that few calories, but you wouldn't want to do that all the time. Do you eat any nuts, coconut, avocados, olives, or oil? If not, perhaps you should.

I must say on a good day, when my stomach is not acting up, the bulk of my diet is vegetables. But I also eat flax seeds, chia seeds, nuts, pumpkin seeds, sesame seeds and sunflower seeds. I eat very little in the way of fruit. And by fruit, I mean sweet fruit. I just don't care for the taste of it.

For a while there I was making sweet foods with dates, but I found that was very short lived. I am just not a sweets person. Mostly the fruit that I do eat is seasonal. Strawberries, apples and pears from my garden. I eat them because they are there and they are plentiful. I might eat the occasional grapefruit. But that's about the extent of it.

I don't worry so much about calories, but I would take a good look if you're getting all of the nutrition that you need. And while veggies are awesome, they don't provide it all. We need some sugars and some fat. Perhaps adding in some berries, nuts, seeds, and oil would balance you out.

If you feel balanced and in tune with your body, go with it :)

i couldnt even tell you the last time i counted calories

there are days im sure i eat very few, and days i eat more than enough. in the end i figure it will all balance out.

eat when youre hungry..dont when youre not..pay attention to how you feel. if youre eating too little for your body, it will let you know. its a smart little thing ;)

ETA: i was actually just watching a show on our ancient, ancient ancestors and one of my first thoughts in regard to their diet was "they didnt even know what a calorie was." go figure

My thoughts exactly. Just listen to your body. As long as you are not anorexic or something, don't worry about it. You are not everyone else. We are individuals with individual needs. Thank God He didn't create us all alike. How boring!!

But why can't you eat fruit AND veggies?? I couldn't live without fruit but that's just me.

From other things that I read I think that it is possible that what you were missing was greens.

thanks for your input. I do better when I view my daily intake as 95% greens with an added piece of fruit. As opposed to 95% fruit with a few greens added.

Know what I mean? For the past 2 days I have added an apple in each green juice I've made. It's tolerable.

No on the fats. But I'll start doing that.

Fruits have lost of vitamins and I know what you mean about your teeth hurting. :o I find that if I cut back on eating citrus fruits and I get most of my fruit in a smoothie and drink it with a straw so that it bypasses my teeth I do okay and my teeth don't hurt. I even put citrus in my smoothies sometimes as long as I use a straw I'm good to go! :D Hope this helps.
