Refuse to buy them, and tell Whole foods why. Insist on oregon tilth cert'd organic products and eschew the bogus USDA label. May as well save the dough and buy the openly messed up conventional food.
Not saying that these kiwi's are/aren't organic (I've never shopped there) but I remember searching for something on this site and coming across some pictures of dragggon's garden. Most of the pics aren't showing up but here's one that is:

So, just because something is large, doesn't necessarily mean it isn't organic.

I think we as consumers forget how much power we have! The whole united we stand philosophy is true!

I thought that if something is labeled organic it can't be GMO'ed? Has that changed?

 how in the world?! haha thats awesome
and i dont know..thats what i thought audrey, but these kiwis were honestly the width of large non-organic tomatoes. really, if you put three "normal" kiwis on the counter side by side and then imagined they were all stuck together into one big kiwi, thats what they looked like. not even natural looking :(

Check the labels
A conventionally grown banana would be:
4011
An organic banana would be:
94011
A genetically engineered (GE or GMO) banana would be:
84011

It no longer matters if it says USDA. All that means is NOTHING.
I asked the same question just last week in my coop, which I've ALWAYS trusted to check sources. They had apricots which looked like they were grown in heaven. Apricots was one thing my grandfather raised and I've canned enough apricots to fill this house. I have NEVER seen apricots the size of those "organic" apricots they were selling. I asked the produce person how they "knew" they were organic. She shrugged and said, "The USDA says so." I was shocked. This was the second such conversation I have had there in 2 weeks.
I don't trust the USDA farther than I can throw them.
If you want to know why, make Organic Consumer's Association one of your favorite websites and check it weekly. There is currently legislation that will make it legal to label products "organic" that are NOT organic. Honestly.
The only way you can be sure is to buy LOCALLY grown produce from places you've investigated yourself, or to grow them yourself.
Here is one story that will show you how much you can trust your USDA. And believe me, when they say they 'are going to" do something, you can bet your boots they're already doing it!

Yup, I'm sure. I found it on line and also in a magazine article that I clipped out last year.

Yes they will have 5 digits but organic will begin with a 9 and genetically altered will begin with an 8.
