What is the proper method, it takes me and my dad like 20 minutes to open one?
Please share!!!!!

This is what I do:

I put ,the coconut on the counter with the flat side up. With a large knife with a jagged edge and I puncture the flat bottom in the middle. Then I use a meat tenderizer (or a hammer) to tap it in, turning it every few taps to open the hole. The hole ends up being about 1/4-1/2" around.

I turn the coconut over a coffee mug and drain out the water.

I put the coconut in a 2 plastic grocery bags, give it to my daughter. While I'm drinking the coconut water she goes to the garage and whacks it on concrete floor two or three times until it cracks (not shatters).

Then I take it to the kitchen and pull it completely apart. And eat!

Works every time.

2 Banana hemp shakes: meaning 3 bananas in total, 2 tbsp cacao and 3 scoops hemp protein powder which is a 1 and 1/2 servings.

1/2 cauliflower with 1/2 avocado - dried mustard, turmeric, ACV and salt.
I pureed the avo with the spices, then pulsed the cauliflower in. This has been my daily lunch favorite - it's an ode to the deviled eggless spread recipe.

1 apple with 1 tbsp Tahini

Munched on 3 sheets nori
1/4 canteloupe

A few macadamia nuts in between
Couple baby carrots

What a fun thread! :)

Breakfast--about 1/2 cup strawberries and 1/2 blackberries with fresh chopped mint

Lunch--1/2 cup homemade gazpacho (tomato, onion, cucumber, jalapeno, lime juice)

Snack--banana tahini smoothie

Supper--2 colored bell peppers (one red, one purple) dipped in homemade guacamole

I'm already planning breakfast and lunch (both of which I pack and take to work) for tomorrow--watermelon, more of the berries with mint, and a baby greens/herbs/kale salad with EVOO and lemon dressing.

Peace and Blessings,

I had dehdrated some eggplant a couple of days prior so i put that in the blender after soaking it with some flavored olive and blended it up and i added some sundried tomatoes to the blender and chopped up a red pepper(sweet one) and a hot pepper and then i chopped up a avocado and tomato.
I stirred all this together and made a mound of it and put it on a large kale leaf and rolled it up.
On the side i put some sliced mushoom and ate it:) my husband who winkles his nose at most things i make:) loved it. He's getting better and says he is craving raw dishes because they are tasting better.

Okay, for dinner tonight I made Ani Phyo's Brazil-Broccoli Mash and it was DEEEEEELISH. Here is the recipe:

Brazil-Broccoli Mash (serves 4)

1 clove garlic
1 pinch ground black pepper
1 tsp sea salt
1 cup raw Brazil nuts
2 cup broccoli, chopped

Process the garlic, pepper, and salt into tiny pieces. Add Brazil nuts and process into a powder. Empty this powder into a bowl and set aside. Next, process broccoli while slowly adding the Brazil nut powder back in.

Yummmm! The only changes I made were I cut the recipe in half and used garlic powder instead of fresh garlic clove. :)

So far today I have eaten a juicy, sweet, delicious peach! Probably the best peach I have had all summer! Been so busy at work I have not had a chance to eat anything else.

Now I have a problem. Someone in our office is going on maternity leave and the boss will be springing for pizza and ice-cream cake today at 1:00! I am trying to stay in control. I have already been tempted today by warm brownies heating up in the kitchen of our small office (nowhere to escape the smell). It wasn't some store bought brownie that had been sitting on a shelf for God only knows how long. This was a huge brownie, still in the pan it was freshed baked in this morning from a restaurant. It was warm and moist and gooey from the pudding inside. I WALKED AWAY FROM IT and ate my peach:) Now there's going to be pizza and cake in the office all afternoon:eek: HELP!!!!!

I have eaten:

a handful of dates (still totally addicted) and 1 banana

several tastes of raw/vegan chocolate oatmeal cookie dough (my own creation)

several bits of pineapple

experimented for the first time with a pineapple (yes, raw), banana, honey, ice/water and coconut creme (organic, not sure if it was raw) shake. Very good, but my throat had a painful tickly sensation afterwards

lemon water

took a bite of my raw/vegan cheeze, but it didn't taste right

oh, and I had a couple nibbles of the batter as I made the BBQ chix fingers from Alissa's book. SOOO good! Can't wait to try them when they're done!

Belleadonna,

I am sorry but I was unable to remain strong. :o :o I must confess my sin. I ate some of the pizza bread (no meat), and a small piece of the ice cream cake. As disappointed as I am with myself I decided not to beat myself up about it. What was different about this slip up was that, unlike in the past, I went right back to raw instead of just throwing my hands up in the air and saying I've blown it so why continue....and then just going on some sort of crazy junk food binge. Believe me, I was sorry I had eaten the cooked food immediately after I ate it. I wasn't hungry for the rest of the evening and my stomach was upset all night and this morning when I woke up-just like the last time I ate cooked food. :( I guess I will learn one of these days. It is just not worth it.

So today I am raw and not craving any cooked foods thank God. I just ate a giant bowl of mixed fruit and I totally satisfied. This afternoon I am looking forward to raw nuts, raw crackers and the raw veggies I have been craving!

I have a big delicious salad prepared already for dinner and I will eat that with raw caesar dressing.

Each day that passes that I remain raw I am less and less hungry and I get full faster when I do eat! I AM LOVING THIS!!! I want to start a fast at some point and I believe that if things keep going well I will be able to transition into a fast soon. :D

Broccoli Salad-YUM! Here is the recipe I used from www.goneraw.com
Ingredients

* 5 cups broccoli, chopped
* 1 cup sunflower seeds
* ½ cup onion, chopped
* ½ cup raisins, soaked until soft
* DRESSING
* 1 cup cashews
* 3 tablespoons agave nectar
* 2 tablespoons raw apple cider vinegar
* ¼ teaspoon sea salt
* ¼ cup water
Preparation
Blend the dressing ingredients until smooth. Then pour over the broccoli, onion, sunflower seeds and raisins. Mix well.

Cinnamon

The broccoli salad is really good, the dressing is THE best! I think I will use it next time for a pea salad, I think the flavors would be great for that too.

Here is the choco-orange ball recipe, there is a non-raw ingredient but you can use raw cocoa powder or carob if you'd like instead of the chocolate bar. I will post the recipe "as is" and feel free to change it, I sometimes use different nuts just for a different flavor. I believe this recipe came from Jennifer Cornbleet's website.

Chocolate Chunk Cookies
Makes approximately 1 dozen cookies

1½ cups almonds, soaked and dehydrated
½ cup walnuts, soaked and dehydrated
2 tsp orange zest or ½ tsp almond extract or orange extract
1 ½ cups pitted, packed dates
1 semisweet chocolate bar*, broken up into chunks (see note below)

Grind ½ cup of the almonds into a powder in a food processor and set aside. Place the remaining 1 cup of almonds and the walnuts in a food processor and process until coarsely chopped. Add the dates and the orange zest or almond extract and process until the mixture sticks together. Add the chocolate chunks and pulse just to mix. Form the dough into 2-inch round balls and flatten each ball slightly with the palm of your hand. Roll each cookie in the almond powder. If desired, warm the cookies for a few minutes in a low oven or a dehydrator to melt the chocolate slightly. Store refrigerated or frozen.
*Use dairy-free, cane-sweetened, organic chocolate, such as Rapunzel or Green and Black’s. Chocolate is a celebration food, and should only be consumed occasionally.

Breakfast was not raw. Daughter was having an emergency and I had a hypo so I needed to get some carbs in me right away to be able to help her. I won't say what I age.

Lunch, chia seeds. I simply mix with with water, let them sit overnight and eat the gel with the soft seeds in it. Yum!

Dinner, corn salad. Got some bi-colored corn in my organic produce box. I cut the kernels off one ear, mixed in some little heirloom tomatoes (also from the box), sliced green onions from my garden and some really hot fresh salsa that my daughter wanted from the grocery store. They were giving out samples. My but it's hot! Good, but HOT!

Sorry, no raw restaurants :mad:, but I normally do a lot of shopping at Sahara Mart and Bloomingfoods. Sahara Mart has the better prices for most things I buy.

We do have a vegan restaurant, Roots, but I've not been since I've been raw, and I can't remember if they have anything that's raw--although maybe smoothies and I think they have wheatgrass shots.

I confess: the tomatoes grow in my Dad's garden! :o I'm too lazy to have a garden of my own!!:D

ah i see- well better than Goshen where there's just ONE health store (but it does have some cool stuff). It's still amazing you have some tomatoes of your own!!
....
my day ended with several(like 6!?) spoons of cacao nibs+honey.... grrr self-control!! I NEED SELF-CONTROL! i love all the extra raw energy, but it makes me stay up later and start craving things :(

Im just turning raw...im about 60-70 percent at the moment. Today i have eaten

1 apple
1 plum
1 mango
2 weetabix with soya milk
1 organic dark chocolate bar
1 avocado
1 fruit juice i blended at home- 4 oranges, 1 grapefruit, bit of lemon

And im about to prepare a giant salad with different types of lettuce, lentil sprouts, alfalfa, mung sprouts, brocolli, green and red peppers, red onion, avocado (i dont much like the taste but it makes me look and feel SO good) with flax seeds and sesame seeds sprinkled ontop. Ill probably make chips with that from sweet potatoes with herbs ontop

Ill probably have something else before i sleep, too. Maybe some mushrooms, raw. They need to be eaten within the next few days

Not done eating yet but I had a big green smoothie consisting of 2 pounds of spinach, 3 cups of blackberries, 1 banana, and water. I also had a nectarine as a snack. I'm craving watermelon sooo bad but unfortunately the store is only carrying seedless which I don't care for! :)

I love Lydia's Green Crackers and her Italian ones too.

Plan for the day...

Smoothie-coconut, pineapple, banana, agave, lime juice

Juice-carrots, apples, spinach, lemon, cucumber

Spinach salad-with figs, strawberries, onion, carrots, with a dressing of balsamic vinegar, maple syrup, and olive oil

And I'm going to make the Eggless Salad recipe and got some button mushrooms so I can have deviled eggs!

Have a great RAW day everyone and thanks to all for posting in this thread, I love reading what everyone is having to eat and it gives me so many new ideas.
