to all of you who are cool enough to know what lembas is, do you have any recipes that would serve the purpose? and for those of you uncool folk (jk), is there a dehydrated bread type food that you take with you on long journeys? gracias

lembas is the 'magical' wafer given to the hobbits to nourish them on their journey. The nearest thing I can think of them is the Manna that God sent from Heaven to nourish the Jews on their exodus fom Egypt. CAN SOME ONE OUT THERE COME UP WITH ANY IDEAS. Raw food comes from God.:) :o

I think you can take and "bread recipe" and dehydrate it a bit longer than normal to rid of excess moisture. It's the moisture that makes thing not travel worthy.

The Lambeth bread they carried I think was like a thick super dry unleavened cracker more so than a bread. It may also have contained a fat to help with sustaining energy.

Pemican is also a food that was used by the American Indians for long travel. Although not vegan you could look at it as a guide and replace the amimal product with nuts, seeds and or grains.

pem·mi·can also pem·i·can (pm-kn)
n.
1. A food prepared by Native Americans from lean dried strips of meat pounded into paste, mixed with fat and berries, and pressed into small cakes.
2. A food made chiefly from beef, dried fruit, and suet, used as emergency rations.

Also Raw Food Real Worlds cranberry maple granola lasts FOREVER and would travel very well.

Think about if you are looking for a savory or sweet recipe too. You could try making up your own perhaps using nuts, sprouted oats, raisins & salt. A simple combo to start with.

I think the ideas are limitless. You could even buy Mana bread from the store slice it and roll it out a bit thinner then further dehydrate.

The site below has a lot of raw bread recipes you could start with along with doing a banana search here and the recipes from Alissa's book.
