I am in the process of preparing to try this. I was just wondering if there were any items you could buy at a Health Food's Store that are OK to eat on the diet. Any breads? crackers?

Thanks,

Cheri

fruits, veggies, nuts , evoo...you may have to make your own out of the 3 things I mentioned, people do.
Some stores sell "raw" but there is some question if it is really "raw"?

my healthfood store actually sells raw flax crackers.
around $5. teeny tiny bag.
my home made ones are waaay cheaper and imo taste waaay better.
i make them pizza flavored :)

Rule of thumb - pretty much anything packaged, Pre-pared, canned, etc. is processed in some way.
I agree - making your own is so much easier.
Alissa's flax crackers are very good!

I've always wondered how raw the raw crackers available online are and what their shelf lifes are. Some of the flax crackers sound good, especially since I am not inclined to buy a dehydrator right now, but I don't want to order ones that will go bad right away (or arrive bad!).

Lara bars are also packaged. But I now just keep one or two on me for emergencies when I am out and about. Mentally, it's like eating a candy bar. I get my nuts and dried fruit from the bulk bins because I haven't seen raw nuts packaged already.

there are a few "whole foods" stores, as well as some independent health food stores, by me that have a good variety of packaged raw foods. there is a "raw foods" section down one of the aisles and there are all sorts of raw treats - flax seed, nut, fruit, etc. concoctions. many are quite good. they do tend to be expensive, but if you're starting out and buying something already prepared will help you to stay raw, why not?!
you could also try searching google for "raw living foods order" or something like that and see what comes up.
best,
hj

I think most people only buy things in containers like raw honey or raw nut butters. I was in a store the other day and they had a pack of crackers that was the size of my fist, which in being a female isn't that big, and it was $8. I'm sorry but I'm not paying that for a couple of crackers raw or not. I have not made my own yet a few nuts here and there satisfy the salty crunchy cravings.

I also have Lara bars for emergency stash but apples and bananas are hightly portable so get yourself a tote and try to carry things with you.

I personally, don't see this lifestyle as a "diet". It is a lifestyle choice. A change. For me, if it is in a package I don't eat it. I feel that if is put in a package it has to be "processed" some way some how. Conventional crackers and breads have to be made with some kind of flour....it would not be raw.

Some people use "plantains" as their "bread".

Where are you living.
When I am in Florida I can buy a range of stuff made by Glaser Farms that include crackers and brownies.
They have a website that allows you to order on line (as do others). I can post some links if you want to.

Thank you so much for all your quick replies. It is great to know that there are so many others out there that will help me as I get started.

FYI-I live in Indiana.
