I've heard so many things about NOT eating after 7 p.m. because your metabolism is much slower. Is this true? What time do most of you stop eating at night? Usually I stop around 5 p.m. but ever since I went Raw I've found myself getting cravings around 7:30 p.m. and wish I could snack on some carrots or an apple but I feel too guilty if it's after 7! Is there any truth to this???

I've heard that too. BUT I eat when I'm hungry and if I happen to be hungry at 7 or 7.30 or later, then I eat. I just don't worry about it because I know that what I am eating is a helluva lot healthier than what I COULD be eating.

^^^I couldn't agree more!^^^

I know yall get tired of me saying it, but I'ma keep on sayin' it as long as yall give me a reason to say it - When you first go raw...you're setting yourselves up trying to follow all these "rules" and stuff. Raw is "strict" enough! Britanie..still concerning yourself with that weight, huh?

I generally don't eat after seven only because I am an early riser ~ Cathy

There can't be one time for everyone since each person has their own schedule. It's best to stop eating 2-3 hrs prior to sleeping. If you eat something heavy, more like 3-4 hrs. But really everyone's body is different and it depends on your digestive system.

I'm all for no rules! :p Or really follow what works best for you.

I've heard that as well, BUT your body is going to burn waht it needs to 24/7 no matter what. Don't feel guilty for eating past a certain time. That still seems a bit too restrictive to me. If you're hungry, eat something small or light.

I've wondered that too because I currently eat up until about 30 minutes before bed (around 11:00PM and get up at 6:00). Nothing too heavy, just fruit mostly. I cannot sleep if my stomach is growling no mater what. It has not affected me yet - that I know of. :p

I stop eating when I'm hungry.

I get home from class on Monday nights about 9:30 or even later. That's when I eat. As Barose said, I can't sleep with a growling stomach.

Eat when you're hungry; sleep when you're tired. KISS.

I eat when I am hungry and because my schedule is so irregular, I eat a lot of times right before bed.

You are really making this TOO complicated. Eat Raw. That's all you need to worry about. Just make sure it's all raw. Eat whenever you want, where ever you want. Drink green smoothies too. After awhile...your body and mind will finally work together to decide what is right for YOUR Individual needs. Nobody is going to know what that is but your mind. After being raw for awhile...you will start to have cravings for foods that will be able to heal you. Heal your body mind and soul. It's so wonderful to not have to worry about weight. You will be so frickin happy that you are healthy and have clairity... And then you can finally stop worrying about that 5 pounds. Believe me...I have 20 pounds to lose still and I don't even worry about it. And this is coming from a person who has had some serious eating disorders since childhood. It's great to be free of that. Trust RAW. Do it NOW.

When I first started raw 3 yrs ago, I would eat whenever I wanted. But I have found its better (for me) to have set meals as my body likes the structure.....these days I am eating 2 meals a day with my last meal coming at midday (usually before 2pm but preferably before 1:30pm). It was alittle tough at first but now I feel like I am on a higher level in terms of energy and my body's ability to make full use of what I have put into it. If I ever have a third meal it would be something easily digestible like a melon. But so far I have not done that.

Peace.

Hi

I have struggled with my weight all of my life. I am in the obese category. I want to go raw, but am frightened of eating so many nuts, dates and other dried foods. Can anyone give me a daily diet to eat raw for weight loss. I know this is not the sole reason why most people go raw, but I really do struggle to keep control of cooked food and I know that raw is the best way forward for me.

Is it possible for me to be high raw and lose weight? For example, if I eat salads with chicken or cottage cheese, will I be OK.

I love green smoothies and make these for breakfast, but must admit that I am not keen on a lot of the raw food recipes so would like to eat simply and still lose weight without all the nuts and stuff. Any suggestions?

Bitny- you dont have to eat a lot of nuts, dried fruit, fat at all. I only eat maybe one avocado, a coconut and a few nuts a day. I would have more in a speical treat dessert, or when I workout more but thats not daily. I eat mostly juicy fruit, veggies, greens, smoothies and so on. Over time you will find what works for you. I am still finding that out.

Raw is a lifestyle, not a weight loss diet. We don’t advocate non-raw, non-vegan food on RFT (though the moderator can explain more) ;).

Our thing is, eat whatever you want, especially while you’re new to raw food, as long as its RAW. Enjoy food and life! Just eat raw.

dude..so true. im almost 2 years into high-100% raw (MOVING towards 100% more and more though.. ) and literally the past 3 months 75% of my diet has been raspberries. raspberry smoothies, mostly. ill go through 2 bags of frozen raspberries A DAY (frozen bc im in toronto and its been winter since september. well, obviously.. ). the other day i was messing around looking up the healing powers of certain foods (i think it was bc i had responded to somebody on here who was asking which foods could help heal something) and i found out the raspberries are great for:

kidneys
digestive system
uterus
blood

......ive been at war with my digestive system for 18 months, havent had more than 2 periods the past year (which in chinese medicine is linked to the kidneys), and am rebuilding my circulation as much as i can (my hands like to randomly fall asleep).

how cool is that? ive been healing myself with food and wasnt even conscious of it. subconscious instinct for the win

hehe...yep...I own a juice bar and one of my customers asked me if she should start taking wheatgrass again (she has been taking it for a year and has kinda stopped for awhile)...I was like...I dunno...what do you think?..She looked at me like ..Huh?..then I explained to her that our mind craves what our bodies need. But if it's something like potato chips..it's prolly the salt..and pick something salty tasting..like celery or nori.

I am really amazed that my mind and body can work this well together. It's always felt like my mind and body were at war. And now there is peace. :D

BRITANIE, LISTEN TO ME!!! (said with a wink and a nudge)

There is nothing special about eating after 7. It is really a myth that it is a big deal. I have read stuff on this before, several times, but it has been years. Basically this: what you eat is what you eat. There may be things about keeping your metabolism going by spacing out smaller portions, rather than huge meals. But you won't gain any more by eating a large pizza after 7 as you would have eating it at 5. It will all be processed and metabolised. (just kidding about the pizza, i meant raw pizza, ya know?) If you consume 4000 calories, you have it in you. Regardless of when you consume.

But I agree with the rest: relax, and hit head on your fear of weight and all. You were even beautiful when you were at your heaviest, now you are just healthier! Your struggle seems more about being okay, and less about food. We are all screwed up people with a lot of coolness mixed in. Find some good people to hang around. May you get some peace! We all need it to some degree. Some have it more than others, but it is available to all.

I eat when I am hungry. I tend to stay up until 12-1am so it's not rare for me to eat something at 11pm or at 12am.

I also don't listen to what anyone else says/does. Some people may eat only 3x's a day, some may eat only fruit after a certain time. Some may not eat nuts or fatty raw foods etc. I read all of this and wonder why people restrict themselves. Then I see posts where these same people who "restrict" themselves (some have even been members for years) went back to cooked foods for some time or yo-yo back and forth. I don't restrict myself and I've never cheated... I see a connection *wink*.

I eat WHAT I want WHEN I want it. If I feel like a handful of macadamia nuts at 11pm... I'm gonna eat them. My only restriction is smoothies. My K-tec blender is too loud and I live in an apt so I don't make smoothies after 8pm.

thank you thank you everyone... I feel so much better now about the 'no eating after 7' rule. I'm just going to eat when I am HUNGRY and not freaking stress about it so much! hahaa I need to be nicer to myself!!

Ama, lol, I love your blender comment! But true, I have been eating "whenever I want' (more or less).

I was really connected with Alissa's comment that your body kind of intuitively knows what it wants and I have tried to "listen" to it. I don't go super crazy about that notion, but I just eat when I want a salad, or fresh grapfruit, or even 5 dates with nuts. Life is good!
