nope, it is different that brewer's yeast. not "raw" but one could call it "living" in a sense. and, it is used in small enough quantities for it not to be of concern. brands DO make a difference on this one. if you get it, make sure to get the Red Star Veggie Support variety. WF also has it in bulk bins. Don't know if WF is in Michigan. That type is sold in flakes. For some it can be an acquired taste. I know for me, first time i tried it, it was not red star veggie support kind and it was absolutely horrid. the veggie support kind is much better, but i do not adore it like some do. it is supposed to give a "cheesy" flavor to things. i think it only gives that flavor if you haven't had cheese in a DECADE or more, and/or you don't know what cheese tastes like to begin with. So, I just say it tastes like it tastes. B/c it has been less than 2 years since i last had cheese, so i remember the taste....and that ain't it! better to go without than try to pretend that something tastes like what it doesn't, imo.

:D :p Thanks Kristi & Wendy. Sounds like I better hold off on the Yeast, as I was a Cheese FREAK. I do need to head to Ann Arbor soon, as I'm sick of all this mail ordering & I love that town. Thanks, Lana Q. :) :)
