I got this in my email today:

Dear Members,

We wanted to share this important information that we just received
with you:

Inspired Natural Foods of San Leandro, California is voluntarily
recalling all Maranatha Sesame Tahini with a Use By Date of 04/11/08
because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an
organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in
young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened
immune systems.

There have been no confirmed cases of illness to date.

Here at People's we only sell Maranatha Sesame Tahini in a 16-oz glass
jar.

Please return your tahini to the store for a full refund and a $5 off
People's coupon for your time and trouble.

Our bulk organic tahini comes from two local Eugene, OR companies
called Honey Heaven and Jerusalem House. It is of the highest quality
available and it is perfectly safe. Please ask us to help you find it
on your next shopping trip - it is delicious, local, and you can use
your own container or one of ours.

Quick side note/hijack if you don't mind:
Got any sesame seeds? If so, just grind some of those up (not necessarily to a "butter/tahini" but just ground up) and use that instead of tahini. I've done that in a pinch MANY times when making "refried beans" and it works great! I think the key ingredient is the cumin and not so much the tahini...try a small batch and see! ;)

yeah..I was thinking that. I thought it might be bitter if I tried it. And I just got done telling someone they need to just 'go for it' and experiment. I should take my own advise.

Thanks Cherie...I'll try it :)
