I FINALLY bought some collards. Now, I'm not sure what to do with them. I want to use them as a roll, but do I need to marinate first? Do you roll them and then dehydrate, or eat as is??
What other ways do YOU use collards??
Any great ideas to use as a filling??
I need to get over my fear of trying collards.
Thanks.

I love these.
The problem with me is that somettimes they can be kinda strong tasting after awhile.
last night I filled my collard with some left over coleslaw, onions, ranch dressing and pepper and YUMMIE! I ate two of them for dinner.
You can make up a pate and fill them with that.
Ii have used a mock taco filling, too. With salsa and lettuce create a taco.

You can use collards in any recipe that calls for kale.
The kale salad is one of my favorites. Somewhere on here I have given instructions for cutting it. Basically, you stack the leaves, roll them TIGHTLY lengthwise, then shred finely with a very sharp knife. This makes very fine shreds which take the dressing well and are easier to digest.

I use mine for green smoothies. Like Rowan said, treat em just like kale.
You can also marinate them after you chop them up finely. Add Nama Shoyu, ginger, garlic, olive oil and scallions. "Massage" the collards so the marinade gets into them.

I often save my pulp from carrot juicing and mix in organic taco seasonings with a variety of other vegetables like cucumber and avocado and use that to wrap up in a collard leaf. Good!

Path,
Absolutely. Just like kale, using salt and Nama Shoyu to marinate collards really breaks down the bitter flavor and makes it taste cooked. :)
