Hi all. My wife and I will be travelling to Lake Tahoe, CA at the end of this month to visit family. I would like to prepare a full meal for everyone that is all raw, but was wondering if I would have the resources there to do it. And when I say resources, I mean stores to buy some of the stuff I may need that a regular grocery store wouldn't sell. Does anybody know if such stores exist in that area? Heck, if there was a raw restaurant, I'd just take everybody out there instead. :) If one doesn't exist, then I may have pack stuff to bring along with me.
Also, it would be nice to visit another store that sells things we could eat other than the 2 we have here.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

Hmmm.... I just moved from that area to Miami. That is where I first heard about raw! But I didn't get into it while I was there, so now I am thinking where you might go.
Are you flying into Reno? There is a Wild Oats that I think is supposed to turn into Whole Foods soon. (Whole Foods was supposed to build a new store, but then they went and purchased Wild Oats stores). The person I heard about raw from first does a lot with that store. There is also a store called the Great Basin Food Co-Op with raw stuff.
The Pneumatic Diner in Reno has raw items on their menu. However, that is a far of drive from Tahoe once you're at the lake.
South Lake Tahoe (SLT) has a few vegetarian/vegan restaurants, but I don't know if they have 100% raw offerings on their menus. Freshies was the best by far.
There is a very nice produce store in downtown Truckee. I am forgetting the name, but it's a female name.
I am surprised there aren't more vegan/vegetarian specific restaurants there. I'll ask my friend on the northside of the lake her outlook. She's a cooked vegan, but she might know something.
Have fun!

I just wanted to say that I am so jealous you are going to Tahoe! I grew up in Reno & totally miss going to Lake Tahoe every weekend! Sorry I can't help out with pointing you in the direction of where to shop/eat as I was in my teens when I left NV & my parents still took care of all that, we were a pretty healthy family but not raw by any means. But I wanted to say have a great time & best of luck finding places to eat & shop raw! Have you tried looking on the internet for stores & reviews in Tahoe?

No flying. We're driving from Illinois to Lake Tahoe. :) So we'll pass through Reno, but probably won't be stopping.
Thanks for the tips, though.

No flying. We're driving from Illinois to Lake Tahoe. Ahh...at least you are driving in the summer! We took I-80 when we moved there in January 2006 from Indiana. Lots of fun white outs!
It really wouldn't be a long stop to get off in Reno and hit Wild Oats or the Co-op to stock up on organic produce. If you're going to go to South Lake Tahoe and turn off 80 at 395, you'll be going right past Wild Oats. It's a very quick exit. I was also thinking that there is a Farmer's Market in South Lake Tahoe in the summer. I am sure Truckee has one ,too.
RawGoddess: what HS did you go to? My kids went to McQueen last year.

here's a few places:

Also you might consider making something that is easy that does not require a large amount of fancy ingredients.
Hope this helps:D

Yeah, I was looking at Google Maps yesterday and noticed that. I told my wife last night we're making a stop in Reno on the way through. :)

We plan on doing that, but one of the things I want to make, a Lasagna, requires miso. Not many places carry raw miso. And that was my main reason for asking this question in the first place. :) We have to keep it simple since all I'll have is a food processor.
Thanks for the links, though. I'll definitely be checking them out.
