When I used to work as a makeup artist, I got invited to alot of glam parties. One was a runway show of playboy models and Ford models. The Ford models were by far thinner...but I gotta say...they looked WAAAAYYY unhealthy and bony in person.
On the other hand, the Playboy girls had cellulite and in a couple of cases muffin tops but they looked AWESOME and had some sass. We coud neverr have used them for fashion pictures without weeks of post production photoshopping...cause no matter how tall our models are...samples from designers come in very small sizes ( try 6 ft girls who HAVE to be thin enough to squeeze into size 3/4...sound healthy? HA!)
BUT!!! I would choose a little cellulite anyday over looking like an androgenous clothes hanger! Even when I got a say in our editorial models, I thought the ones who looked more like athletes looked way cooler! Ultimately, the girls in Shape Magazine or Fitness look the best. Believe it or not, plenty of them are 5 ft 6in-5ft8in and weigh anywhere from 125-160 lbs. You'd never know it coz they're TONED. Guys must agree
cause the chicks from FORD MODELLING got boo'ed while the cellulite-having, ladies got mega-cheers.
Forget the number...get a tape measure or a pair of pants you want to fit into. I have worn a size 5 at 150 pounds and I have worn a size 11 at 150 pounds. IT's all about health and body composition. If you eat right and move your body those things will just HAPPEN.

Thanks for this post. It is so easy to get sucked into society's notions of beauty. Health is not just a number, it's a variety of things like nutrition, fitness, adequate rest, peace of mind, etc...
I have to remind myself of this sometimes to when I get too obsessed with numbers.

OMG, you rock. I sooo agree. I love that I'm thicker and curvy, for sure. It's the extra weight on TOP of that I don't like. Most men agree that more is more and less is less. lol! Of course, I grew up in a home that promoted the Ford model type as attractive, and the damage occured. But boy is it fun liking myself more and more each day, and with a b/f that appreciates my curves! :-)

Hypno, you do indeed RAWK!!!!
Remember the Vargas girls? Marilyn Monroe? Jane Russell? They were all about the hourglass. I definitely prefer the pin-up to the pin, any day. But in the end, it's all about lovin what you were given and not trying to mold yourself into an impossible standard.

Great message here!
I also wanted to add, if I may, that I think that it's all about self-acceptance. Now don't get me wrong, it's quite obvious that if a person is morbidly obese that there is something going on whether it's a thyroid/metabolic or other health issue, an over-eating issue, a not-moving-the-body-via-SOME-form-of-fitness issue or just a simple poor-food-choice issue. So, there are some steps that we need to take to get to those root causes for those issues...such as eating a primarily raw foods diet...and things will balance out to what is ideal for US.
Now, this may mean that a person may end up being thinner than they hoped for 'cause while the majority who come to raw foods may be on a larger scale (no pun intended), there are some who come who are already thin or small and they are actually afraid that if they go raw, they will get any skinnier than they already are...then there are some, like me, who were okay being the size they were pre-raw and don't want to really lose their curves, booty, boobies, etc. - which I actually did end up losing some of my curvier "assets" against my will, but I wasn't in control of that! But based on factors such as genetics, bone density, etc. - you may be a skinnier, as hypnocmt phrased it - "androgenous clothes hanger" type of raw fooder or you may be a more meaty, curvier, robust type of raw fooder (think Victoria B. who many scrutinized for her size though she is very healthy) - but all in all, as it was said, we come in all shapes and sizes even WHEN at our healthiest... eating our healthiest most pure diet.

Yeah...and let me just clarify...there is a HUGE diff between a skinny person and a skeletal, unhealthy, malnourished one. The former is beautiful and the other is what I meant by androgenous clothes hanger. ;)

From men's perspective I can only say: a big Yes.
Some girls use curves to say it, others don't but are shining and whispering through their fragile beings.
Doesn't matter: I always will listen to whom is talking.

I have to point out Liv Tyler. What an amazingly beautiful, glowing person.
Also, one of the most gorgeous girls I have ever seen (and she drove the men wild...evry man...in any room...whoa) was this Greek girl who was a student of mine. She was about 6 feet tall and probably wore a size 14 or larger. But man, she could carry herself. She was healthy and well put together at all times. She was the nicest, friendliest person you ever want to meet, smart as a whip and double tough. Loved her. Her dad own a really well-known Cajun resto here in Chicago, and they do not spare the butter or bread. Still, she is healthy and just a shining example of unconventional beauty.
Maybe beauty is more of a vibrational quality than anything.

:) Thanks. Not for to long I hope..:D
Truly: if only beauty can save the world, than I have to thank so many women for beginning with THEMSELVES.
Well, glad I have the opportunity to thank them all being here.

"Maybe beauty is more of a vibrational quality than anything."
AMEN! Well said.
I have had the pleasure of observing and interacting with the Caribbean community here in south Florida as my husband is Caribbean, from St. Vincent. These are some of the most gorgeous women I have ever seen, REGARDLESS of size! I have watched some of these ladies, who were way over 200 lbs. by the way, command the attention of entire large groups of people, men and women of many races, just by walking by. They are stunning. They don't try to hide their ampleness and they are not ASHAMED of their bodies. Just goes to show you that whatever you believe about yourself inside shows up on the outside. So let your light shine!
Peace and thanks for this great thread.

Here here on that! I'm 5''9' and if I weigh below 140, without lifting weights and being fit in general already, that is way too little for me. I think that's great.

I have tried to be happy and convince myself that I'm beautiful despite my weight but I have such a hard time. I'm pretty happy with most things in my life, my skins okay, my hair is okay, my jobs okay, I'm pretty healthy.... but my weight and the self esteem issues that evolve around being overweight torment me. I guess that why I've been on the never ending search for a cure. The search has led me here and it's been a positive experiece so far so I'm hangin' in there hopin' for a miracle.

145ish - I echo your thoughts, completely. It would be nice to not have the body image/self-esteem issues haunting me all the time. It doesn't really make sense, because I know I am a treasure of a human being;)
great message! I think we get too consumed by the scale!

omg AMEN! i am soo soo sick of seeing girls who i'm hardpressed to tell them apart from prepubescent boys represent the clothes that the real world is supposed to be fitting into.
i get fashion- i love fashion and i know some designs hang better on smaller frames, but c'mon they can hang just as nicely on a girl who doesn't look like she could stab somebody with her protruding rib bones!
even though in essence i don't agree with them constantly displaying women as sexual pieces of meat, i APPLAUD them for choosing healthy, curvy, and real bodies in all their cellulite glory!
BLESS YOU FOR THIS THREAD!
