My son (13) is going raw with me, but it's been hard for him because when he eats most fruits, nuts, and seeds in their raw form they make his tongue itchy (it doesn't make a difference if the items are organic or conventional, as far as itchiness goes), and of course he doesn't like it. Oh, and he's totally in love with dairy, which I have switched him over to raw dairy only now, and am going to wean him off of that. Also, interestingly enough, I can include most of the "Itchy" items in his green smoothie and it doesn't bother him.

Itchy
Apples
Pears
Plums
Peaches
Apricots
All Melons (except Watermelon)
Pineapple (in large quantities)
All Berries (except Strawberries)
Cherries
Carrots
Tomatoes (sometimes)
Celery
Almonds (including raw almond milk)
Walnuts
Cashews
Sunflower Seeds

Non-Itchy
Strawberries
Grapes
Watermelon
Kiwi
Mangoes
Papaya
Oranges
Pineapple (in small quanities)
Cucumbers
Zuchini
Tomatoes (sometimes)
Pumpkin Seeds (roasted, haven't tried raw yet)
Cabbage
Dates

So, I'm not sure what I'm looking for. Maybe if something jumps out at you about the food lists, or if you or a loved one has experienced the same thing. I don't know if I should continue to leave these things out of his diet or if he continued to consume them the itchiness would stop. Someone on another thread here mentioned "oral allergies", and it just got me to thinking.

Thanks in advance for any and all thoughts and suggestions. :)

Well, my daughter used to be "allergic" to citrus fruits and nuts and for a moment my husband was "allergic" (she'd get rashes) to strawberries and bananas (he'd break out in hives).

But the first thought that came to me was once the dairy (even raw) is out of his system, perhaps you may begin to see improvement. The foods themselves are not the culprit, but rather something going on within that is counteracting with those natural foods. With both of them, I eliminated the foods that triggered their ailments and fed them a MOSTLY raw diet of foods they could eat and eventually I gradually re-introduced those foods and now they can eat them with no problems.

He just needs a good system and bowel cleansing. Misslinda often says that perhaps the gut needs healing too so maybe she'll chime in with more on that.

But that's GREAT that your 13-year old is going raw with you!!! I know you must feel wonderful about that! :D

Yeah, I have been blessed with a great kid. He’s suffered through this whole crazy journey to Raw (from SAD, to Vegetarian, to Vegan, to Nourishing Traditions type, to Eat 4 Your Blood Type, to Raw). When the Lord led me to Raw, I shared all I found out with him, and had him read all of it too. I told him I thought that this was the correct way to eat, and I was going to try it, he agreed and said he would too. It was awful…struggling with all the food addictions and emotional eating we both were experiencing, and his itchy tongue limiting the types of raw he can eat. The thing that made the difference was when we added green smoothies to our diet. *insert Hallelujah choir here*

My son is a Fencer, and one morning we didn’t get to have our green drink before we rushed out the door to his lesson. Well, when I picked him up afterward, he said “Mom, I’m never doing a lesson without having my green drink again, it was terrible, I had no energy and couldn’t keep my mind on what he (the teacher) was saying. And don’t hold this against me, but I like being mostly Raw…just don’t take away my cheese.” Needless to say, I was flabbergasted, and so, so thankful. I am truly blessed :) .
