I have not had enough greens lately, what with all the nut-based stuff and fruit and dates (mmmm....) and my guacs and whathaveyou.... I decided that I needed a green smoothie about 20 minutes ago. Usually that means tossing some fruit in too (and then I have to chop it some, which is a pain), but not today... I just tore off and tossed in some kale, ice, water, and swiss chard, and

WOW!

It's like I woke up from a brain freeze or had the morning coffee in my past life. I'm feeling like I could conquer the world now!

The smoothie was a little weird, though. :D

Ariannah...

Did you really want more?!? :o It's like having wheatgrass (which I adore although I stand by that it seems funny making juice out of grass)... I put a lot of water, and I really, really think it's a nice, refreshing pickmeup...

Maybe I'm just becoming another smoothie groupie!

I adore green smoothies, and I do put a LOT of greens in it, but I *do* like it sweetened with fruit. I just may have to try this sometime!!

kiki and beanblossom,

I bet you could! I went about it feeling nervous and apprehensive at first, but then when I reminded myself of my no-longer-current sluggishness I had a nice turn toward hopeful optimism. Then, about 2 minutes later the thing was done (no chopping helps!), and I could not turn back. It's really not too bad.

And it is weird, but most of the stuff I eat these days is weird. :D

I loved your WOW! I was thinking I would try a green drink at lunch. It has been my breakfast most recently, but sweet with fruit. I was thinking I would be so brave by blending up my usual chopped salad and adding the 2 cups packed spinach. But, I realize now that's not so brave after reading your report. I have to take baby steps! :) But good for you for what seems to me plunging in!

That's impressive. I'm not sure I'm ready for that yet. I'm pretty sure I remember reading or hearing about someone saying that after drinking green smoothies (with fruit) after a while that they started liking the taste of wheatgrass juice. I have also heard people say that after a while they sometimes use less and less fruit in their green smoothies. Sounds like you have reached the pinnacle of greenitude. Congratulations!

Yes I believe so.

Plain greens just taste so nasty to me because I am use to them being covered in vinaigrette!! lol. I do throw quite a bit of celery and kale in with my fruit though.

How about adding GREEN apples and GREEN avocado???

Would that be cheating??? :D

I do notice that I put more and more greens in with my smoothies. Same fruit content, just upping the greens. so the greens:sweet fruit ratio is definitely up, BUT, the fruit I add is also so sweet (I don't chop the fruit I use, I am lazy, I stick bananas and dates in it), that it takes an awful lot of greens to balance out the sweetness.
