View Full Version : Is it possible to NOT lose weight eating Raw?

I started the 30 day raw food challenge about 5 days ago and I have been 100% raw (besides eating nori sheets that aren't raw) and I haven't lost a single pound. I am not overweight but I would like to lose atleast 5 lbs. I just feel a bit discouraged because I thought I would atleast lose SOMETHING in 5 days! I've heard so many people say they lost so much weight in their first week so I'm wondering why I am not. Is it possible that I am eating too many nuts and dates?? I just started eating Raw so I must admit I am eating alot of sweets, but it's helping to keep me staying on the program otherwise I feel like I might go back into cooked foods if I don't allow myself some treats... but maybe I should be a bit more strict if I want to shed some pounds???
P.S.
I realize this diet is not just for weight loss and it's definitely not my main priority, I am doing it for health reasons... however, it would be nice to go on the scale and see that I have lost a few lbs as well!

Is it possible to NOT lose weight eating Raw?
It happens but it is very very rare.
Your body will lose the weight it needs to...just give it more time.

don't be strict, that's the worst thing you could do, your body would just try to hold on to what it's got even more, let alone slowing down your metabolism
green smoothies- they're genious and they really help weight loss
limit, but don't exclude nuts and excessive fats like tons of oil on salads and overconsumption of avocados
MOST IMPORTANTLY: give it time, it's only been five days, you may not see results that quick but be assured that things are changing for the good

I'm not terribly overweight either and even I though I did lose some pounds in the first 30 days of being raw it wasn't very spectacular. I guess if you have more to lose, you'll lose it quicker. Remember that this isn't a "lose weight quickly diet" but a healthier way of eating. :)

Well I'm actually at a healthy weight it's just that before my thyroid got screwed up I weighed about 10 lbs less than I am now and I felt better at that weight, so I'd like to get back down to where I was but I figure if I don't lose any weight then maybe that's my bodies way of saying it WANTS to be where it is now. I just have an obsession with the scale, I wish I could get rid of it!

Your pictures are amazing! Congratulations! As for losing on raw, your body is going to adjust and put you where you should be, so you may not lose much more if you are already not overweight. It could also be that you are just going to lose slower b/c you have very little to lose. :)

Awwww, you look fabulous...don't worry about that darn scale :)
BTW, read your blog - great idea on the nori roll. I eat mine like burritos too. I'll add onion to the next one.

Thank you! once my doctors found out I had food allergies and I cut out all wheat/gluten, rice, grains, dairy, soy and artificial sugar I lose all of it... that plus doing lots of pilates. :)

Hey pretty girl....your stunning!!!!...Good job on the weight loss and your continued quest for good health.
My weight loss has been slow to none...I have 10 pounds I'd like to lose so I look to all the posts for help. Slooooooooooooooow but sure I suppose....I've been raw 9 months and I, too, didn't drop weight like a lot of people have.
I feel great though and wouldn't change anything about the way I eat.

on your weight loss and your finding Raw!!:) You looked lovely and sweet to start...but with the release of that weight..wow, you really shine through..
as for letting go of more weight.. I agree with what others are saying, since you do not have much to release, it will likely be a slower process.. I know you will be pleased if you stick with it! It is amazing how Raw uncovers the true beauty and peels away the excess.. the visual/other "distractions"...to uncover the real "YOU."
Have a great day!!:D

I also have to add that your before and after pictures are just amazing! You are stunning!
I've also got that last stubborn 5 pounds to get rid of, last summer I lost it and was at what I think is my best weight but I gained it back over this winter. I am eating a bit lighter now that the weather is better and we are getting more fresh produce at the market so I hope it will come off on its own.

THANK YOU! I ate lots of lean meats and fish... that's what the hardest thing about going Raw was for me, cutting out all of my salmon and turkey! but I do feel alot better after not having it. also I ate lots of cooked veggies... and fruits of course!

I was reading Sunfood..and it has a section for sluggish thyroid. One of the recommendations is to consume 2-4 tbsp. of coconut oil (extra virgin) each day. My chiropractor also told me that before...but she said to start small like 1 tsp. for the first 3 days and build it up....maybe add the coconut oil to your smoothie (the fat should also help with nutrients absorption)....I don't know it this will help with the weightloss coz you certainly don't look like you need to lose it :D
Amazing photos!! It's amazing how much even your face changed. You eyes look so big and beautiful. Great job!!

That was pretty much my diet before going raw as well ---except I ate rice.
You look great! I can so related to having a different face; I gain so much in my face when I gain weight, I look like a different person.
I didnt lose much for the first 2 week of going raw, but during the 3rd+ week, the weight started coming off. Like you, I didnt have much to lose either. The more you weight, the easier and faster it comes off (in general).

I wonder about weight loss, too. I was reading the story of a woman last night, who has been raw for 14 years. In the middle of those years, she gained a LOT of weight. Still raw, just was fruitarian. She learned that eating only fruit makes her gain considerable weight as a 'slow burner'. She needs greens and protein.
But others say, 'eat greens and fats, you will gain weight. Eat sweet fruits and fats to lose weight.'

I too am curious what kind of tests you used to determine your allergies. Was it skin testing? An elimination diet? I'm sure I'm dealing with a whole mess of my own sensitivities and allergies...
And Ia gree with everyone else, you look beautiful. So bright.

I know everyone else has already "weighed" in but I just wanted to say that 5 days raw with no weight loss for someone who has very little to lose shouldn't seem that abnormal. Since I began raw a month ago, I have been losing about a 1 pound a week. I only have about 11 pounds or so to go so I don't expect that to just come flying off. I think people who have alot of weight to lose start dropping the pounds faster.
But I wish you the best in your personal goals nonetheless!
