You can use your oven, but be sure to keep the door open. A dehydrator uses a fan to help in the dehydration process. Using a conventional oven will increase the risk for bacterial growth though. It is not really recommended. Sorry.
Oh, if you do a search, you'll find a ton of information on this subject.

thats why i was thinking a convection oven might work... since it has a fan that blows the air around. would that still not work?
id really rather not have to leave the door open... itd already be a bit of an energy waste, considering how much bigger an oven is than a dehydrator; i was just wondering for once in a while, or for doing loads of stuff at once.

I'm not really sure. Sorry. This was posted in another thread:
You might also want to go to www.freecycle.org, which is an environmental organization that sets up listserves in different communities where people can get rid of unwanted items (by offering them to the list) so they don't go into landfills. See if there is an active group where you live. A while back I posted a "wanted" on freecycle for "that juicer and dehydrator sitting in your basement that you never use" and got responses within minutes and had picked up both items for free within a couple days.
It is great if you are low on funds or just experimenting with something new.

walmart has dehydrators for $40 and rawguru.com has great dehydrators starting at $119 (with free shipping!!!!) I keep putting it off buying one also, but I see the time has come when I really need it if I want to make great food. I am looking at all the great photos posted here, and as much as I love my smoothies I REALLY WANT TO START MAKING NEW FABULOUS TOTALLY RAW THINGS!! :D :D
